Anyone going to Englishtown on Saturday for the imports vs US? I'm taking the 'vette out to get in some runs. It's a zoo but this will be the first time out for the 'vette and I need seat time before the season starts.

I met up with Rick yesterday and he introduced me to a shop that he used for machine work. I left my bolck with them. Hopefully I'll have a motor back together in a few months. I was going HR but now Rick has be thinking I should go SR with this new motor. What do ya think? kazman 03-04-2006, 06:51 PM No car to race for now Jim. I met up with Rick yesterday and he introduced me to a shop that he used for machine work. I left my bolck with them. Hopefully I'll have a motor back together in a few months. I was going HR but now Rick has be thinking I should go SR with this new motor. What do ya think? I would trust Rick. I would go with the machine shop he recommends and have Rick do the assemble with you. I had 4 bolt mains installed, Crowler sportsman forged crank, Crowler sportsman "stroker" rods and JP pistions. It was $4k for the machine work and parts. Another 40 hour of labor to assemble by (Sorry rick) another bracket racer. Personally I would be confortable to let Rick handle the entire rebuild. -Jim Actually Brian I would trash the lt1 and go with a regular SBC. It would be 1/2 the cost for twice the power. My machine shop does a lot of circle car engines and feels the hp limit of a stock lt1 block is 500-550 gross. Dart block, powerglide, and a carb. Good luck -Jim Projectz28 03-04-2006, 10:20 PM yeah but there is just something I like about a fuel injected engine. I still run in alot of those EFI races and for that I am keeping the LT1. I did go with his machine shop recommendation. I like the guy and the shop is closer to home. Here is the rundown for I belive will happen. 4 bolt LT1 block(if it checks out ok), forged Eagle crank and 6" rods, Diamond or similar forged nitrous pistons. Keeping it to a 355. Compression in the 11.5/12.0-1 range, custom SR cam and hopefully a decent set of heads. I hope these heads I got work out ok but time will tell once I get them on a flow bench. Rick offered to help me assemble the short block and I think I am going to take him up on it. I honestly would do it myself if I had the tools. But I work on engines with a 5.5" bore and 12" stroke;) My tools are a bit too big for an LT1. Rick helps me put together the bottom end and I can put together the top at home. drop it back in the car and find a dyno for some tuning. I think I can do it for a few grand and have a fun and reliable motor. I'll be happy for 400ish rwhp and mid 11's. I'm building up a 12 bolt with ~3.90's and keep the 27" tire. Upgrade to a good tq arm with some front and rear DS loops, better DS and cut out as much weight as possible. I'm currently stripping down the wiring harness to only the necessary curcuits. I think I have already knocked off 50 lbs of wiring that was useless. if I blow up the 4l60e I will look at other transmissions then, but for now its going to be just what I have to deal with. Its got a fresh rebuild from Frank and I only ran it a handfull of times last year. a Glide will be an option later in life... If I ever get into bracket racing as heavy as you and Rick I probably will think about a SBC... it makes sense then, but I still have fun with the EFI stuff. For now I am lucky if I make it to 8 races a year. My summer is already booking up with stuff. Only 1 wedding this year but its still only March here;). Jeff H 03-04-2006, 11:22 PM Jim, I think George Baxter was making over 900 hp with his stock LT1 block with the 383 rotating assembly. Maybe Fred can chime in to verify this but I think the LT1 block is fine for some decent power. On a side note, I have another 4th gen to play around with. I just got the wheels painted and I'm running some 315's in the back. http://home.comcast.net/~jeffhansbury/96CamaroSS/96SSfront1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~jeffhansbury/96CamaroSS/96SSrear1.jpg Projectz28 03-05-2006, 07:46 AM Hey Jeff, that car is nice! You know there are many time I wish I didnt turn mine into a race car just so I could go cruise in it. Seeing that make me want to go out and get another one;) What year is that? 96? I agree, there are plenty of people out there making well over 550 hp on an LT1 block. I'm hoping mine will be around there and put 400 to the wheels, on the juice I would like to see over 500 at the wheels... Jeff H 03-05-2006, 06:23 PM Yup, 96 SS. It's an A4 and I wish it was a 6 speed, but the price was right. I went out for a nice cruise today and the car drives great. I put in the Pacesetter longtube headers and dual cat 3" y-pipe and had the wheels painted white but I think that's all I'm going to do with it for now. I'm still trying to get the 69 Z28 finished. kazman 03-05-2006, 10:08 PM Hey Jeff, that car is nice! The 500hp limit is one of durability I believe George Baxtor had a dart block. I need my motor to last many, many, many runs. Jeff, another nice car congrats. 94_camm 03-05-2006, 11:30 PM hey wats up guys...i live in nj..wen u guys meetin up? my 383 stroker build should b doen in like 2 months..ill go to englishtown with u guys kazman 03-06-2006, 12:05 PM hey wats up guys...i live in nj..wen u guys meetin up? my 383 stroker build should b doen in like 2 months..ill go to englishtown with u guys I'll only be doing the Corvette Challange at RP (runs about once a month).
