TransAmAbe 03-03-2006, 09:06 AM So I'm moving to NOLA from Orlando, FL to attend Tulane in the fall, just wondering if there are any emissions inspections there and if I'll run into any problems having a !cat car. Any advice? Anyone who lives in NOLA send me an email, I'm not seeing any threads about NOLA since before the 'cane last year.

detltu 03-04-2006, 10:24 AM the only place they do emissions testing is east baton rouge parish. Idon't know about the cats in new orleans.
TransAmAbe 03-08-2006, 07:24 PM Cool man thanks for the reply. I just got back from a visit out there and I think my biggest problem is going to be ground clearance and the 6-foot wide pot holes everywhere.

detltu 03-08-2006, 08:13 PM Yeah. You'll find quite a few of those in NO.

Yeah, well don't believe everything you see in the news. I wouldn't be choosing to go to school there if the city was actually destroyed as the national news outlets would have everyone believe. Tulane is in a part of town that was virtually untouched. During my visit to the school last weekend I saw plenty of stuff that was torn up, destroyed, etc. but the campus was essentially intact.
"Interesting" is why I'm actually excited about going out there.
Good to hear there won't be a problem having my car out there except for ground clearance. So are there any repair shops operating out there?

I realize that the entire area isn't under water, but it's still a crime infested, festering cess pool that smells like sh**. ;) I have lots of coworkers that have recently returned from enforcement operations in the greater NO area. :p
TransAmAbe 03-18-2006, 06:21 PM Dude, you're just making me want to move there more. Orlando is a tourist infested, festering cess pool that smells like retirees. So a little variety will be nice. If you're an LEO, shoot me an email. I have some questions regarding my (lawful) posession of firearms in the NO area that I'd like to shoot your way. Lame pun intended. Thanks in advance.

There has been a few F-Bodies stolen in & around the New Orleans area , so be careful where you park it .

Mine was one of them. My suggestion is to take out a few key fuses or relays before you go away for any amount of time. And take everything out of the car . I took everything of value out of mine for the most part but I ended up losing my registration, owners manual, wheel lock and some other stuff so take that stuff out too. Now I do it anytime my car will be parked overnight in the french quarter. Also take the cap that covers the PDC with you so they would have a hard time swapping fuses.

Actually a lot of New Orleans smells better than it ever did before Katrina. Some parts are still really bad and will never be the same. I went to the french quarter for a Bachelor party recently and was pleasantly surprised. It didn't really smell like piss any more and it wasn't as crowded as usuall but there was still a good crowd. You just have to know where to go and where not to go like before.
Sparky 03-26-2006, 03:44 PM Then it's a good thing you don't have to live there!
This is a historical and fantastic city that was almost totally destroyed and (even though forgotten by most of the country) the good people are struggling to keep it alive and bring it back. My parents home had 10 feet of water in it and they've been living with me for 7 months. They are finally going back HOME next month to a different place - just to be back HOME.
If the city is going to get back on it's feet it needs normal operations to return - such as Tulane - and out of state students who wish to benefit from what it (and this city) have to offer.
