I'm starting to wonder if i'm leaving time on the track with my 3.42's. I make peak power around 6400, shift at 6200 and i'm crossing the traps at around 5300 rpm at 120-123mph.
A move up in gearing to a 3.73 would put me closer to peak power by 5-700 rpm, I think, so wouldn't this yield better results?
At this stage in the game a .1 or 2 would be great.
Thought?

Looks like the 3.73's would be a good change for my car.

Back when I had a 383 in my car I was running high 11's at 117 mph with 3.27 gears and 26" tall slicks. Shifting around 6800 and crossing the finish somewhere just over 5000. The car had a lot of top end power as it was just getting into the powerband near the finish when everyone alse was topping out.
Changed to 4.10 gears and a slightly taller tire, 27.2", got me into the low 11's. I moved from something like 11.8 to 11.3 or so. The car was now crossing the finish line closer to the red line.
My current combination, I shift at 7000 and cross at 7000. My cam will float the valves at 7800 so I could take it higher if I wanted but then that would mean another gear change.

The same methodology I explained in that old thread still applies. Gear to go through the traps just over peak power in a 1:1 gear (3rd in an A4, 4th in an M6).

I've liked my 3.42's so far. Run the time in the sig on mt dr's and been as fast as 1.53 on them on the same tires. Just ran out of nitrous on the top end. I know nitrous and blower cars work different off the line. But i like the 3.42's cuz they are still pretty good on the highway.
