Where might I find a lexan glass for a 93-02 trans am?

I was browsing VFNfiberglass.com and they have fiberglass doors for trans ams. Could those be used daily or are they for race cars?

It says "93-2002 Doors no posts. Lexan Use Only." No posts meaning?

VFN makes fiberglass replacement parts. Percy's Speedglass is a lightweight lexan type replcement for glass, and they have a 4th Gen set, including the hatch glass. The lexan is not legal for street use in the windshield.

I say they have a kit for 93-01 camaros. I assume that fits firebirds as well. Do you use this product on your car? Do you know the approximate weight savings for the side windows and rear hatch?

If you were to use this set up for the track only can you use your factory door panels ?

If you don't have a roll cage and you get in a side impact crash you are [EDIT].....

Technically non dot approved parts are not legal.....

Lexan is not legal... it doesn't pass federal standards

In most states you have to have a dot sticker (etched into the glass)

Lexan is not very scratch resistant.....

For a piece of side window glass to pass ffederal standard it has to have the ability to be shattered.....

All factory doors on 1993 and newer F-bodies are made of fiberglass. It is actually a type of fiberglass called SMC. SMC stands for Sheet Molded Composite.

These SMC doors are already fairly light and have a side impact bar built into them. The impact bars are not very heavy either.

Thanks... Would have been fine without the caps.

FYI the side impact bars can be cut out and the weight savings are about 75#'s i am told, but ONLY do this if you have a cage, that way the down bar saves you if you get in an accident

I tore a door apart once, I dont recall that bar weighing 37.5 Lbs. Maybe my memory is failing me. I dunno, You might be right.

The door bars ar 3# each. I think he may be talking about removing the bars, and going to a full low weight Lexan setup.... those together would total about 75#. I did a double take when I thought he meant 75# for the door bars.

Lexan scratches easilly. The Percys Speedglass is supposed to be more scratch resistant. There is someone else out there making 4th Gen plastic replacements for the glass, also scratch resistant.

I doubt that the VFN fiberglass parts for a Camaro fit on a Firebird. I don't have any lighweight body parts or glass. Check out Joe Overton's Firebird... he has it under 3,000# race weight.

All this stuff only makes sense for a "track only" car.

A lot of F-Body race events do not allow Lexan or other extensive use of light weight parts. If you are just going to the track and maknig passes, obviously its not an issue.

Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not losing my mind. :) I could of swore they didnt weigh much at all.
