Problems with parking brake

A few days ago I pulled up my parking brake on my 2000 Z28, and like it sometimes does, I heard the spring make a loud noise. I put it down then back up, and the brake light on the dash didnt come on like usual. So now when I start my car, the headlights come on as if the parking brake were down, and I cant open the trunk with the remote unless the car is off. When I start the car the brake light does flash with all the other warning lights, it just doesnt stay on with the parking brake. Also, My parking brake (ever since I bought the car) has to be pulled all the way to the last two clicks of travel before it will even start to engage. Does anyone know how I can fix these two problems? Thanks!

I've had the same problem with the e brake, except when you hear the spring noise the brake is not engaged. Then I put it back down then pull it back up and it engages and all is well like nothing ever happened.

yeah, thats how it usually works but that time when i brought it down, then back up, it seems the car didnt realize when it goes up anymore. The brake itself still seems to work as it always has though.
