macdaddyZ28 02-14-2006, 08:54 AM Alright yall, I need some ideas. I have a 2002 Z28. It has a k&n air filter, cold air lid, the flex elbow from the intake lid has been changed, it also has borla exhaust with cut outs, and drag link bars. Now all that was done previously to me purchasing it. All I have done is change the oil to royal purple, and went to 3.73, from 3.42. When I first bought it i ran 14.121@103.29. After we changed the rear I ran 12.999@112.26. Not a bad increase for 200 bucks!A guy at work wants me to race his brother, he has a gt mustang with a stick in it. Thats all I know about it. He claims to have run in the low twelves. Now you and I both know damn good and well that NO stock mustang will do that. This is just a plain ole GT, not a cobra or anything. What do yall think? How much do you think he has dropped into the engine? He wants to race for five grand! What do yall think I could to to my Z to make it a 10, or 9, second car? For under 3? And I have the T56, by the way
Broken5hift 02-14-2006, 08:57 AM i cant wait to see the replies to this...
sabre81 02-14-2006, 09:55 AM Buy nittos, buy 250 shot of n2o, win $5000... well unless he also has the juice.
94Z28/SSw 02-14-2006, 12:02 PM Don't do it, for five grand, he knows what your running, I think he is trying to sucker you in for money. Don't be stupid.
teke184 02-14-2006, 12:24 PM any one who races an unknown car for $5000 is just plain stupid.
i wouldn't race him for more than $50 or $100 and then only if i had some expendable cash sitting around.
you're gonna need more than $3000 to do a 10 or 9 sec car.
you're best bet is to spend $1000 and get a good 150hp shot of N20 and all the associated safety precautions, along with some drag radials.
should be cleanly in the in the 11s with that assuming traction.
macdaddyZ28 02-14-2006, 02:38 PM Actually in the traction departmen, the track down here is rather slippery....Thunder Valley Noble,OK. So I am gonna have to look at full on race slicks if we do race, but it wont be until mid summer anyways. So yall keep it coming I need all the technical I can get. Thanks!
'86 350 02-14-2006, 03:55 PM You dropped over a second off your E.T and gained almost 9mph just from a 3.73 to 3.42 swap?
johnny6 02-14-2006, 06:06 PM You dropped over a second off your E.T and gained almost 9mph just from a 3.73 to 3.42 swap?
I was thinking the same thing, must be those new magic gears. Just race him for a tank of gas.

Race him like your car sits right now. You swapped gears and gained a lot of mph and you're headed in the right direction and it appears your car loves the lower gear ratios :D Have you considered moving to a 3:27 gear?
Mikie 02-14-2006, 06:59 PM I hate to ask , but are you mentally stable?
$5,000 on a stupid race...
Gimme a break:rolleyes:
Nothing you have said makes any sense.
mthegodfather 02-14-2006, 08:20 PM Don't do it.
chevelles101 02-14-2006, 10:49 PM I believe he said he swapped TO a 3.73 FROM a 3.42 if you read carefully.
macdaddyZ28 02-14-2006, 11:26 PM Yes ladies and gentlemen, From 3.42, to 3.73. I also ran that 14 on my first pass...EVER!!! So i am sure that control was a factor as well, being how the first run I baked through 3 gears! What about 4.11's? think I outa go with them?
JayFred 02-15-2006, 01:31 AM i dunno... im interested in seeing who will win... i say do it!:)
Bow94z 02-15-2006, 07:53 AM Buy nittos, buy 250 shot of n2o, win $5000... well unless he also has the juice.
:metal:
Yea i think the Gt owner is Bluffing, he's got a nice n20 setup or he's procharged:eek:
94Z28/SSw 02-15-2006, 01:00 PM Yeah, 4.11's in a auto is not a good idea, especially if you drive it alot on the highway, you'll be crusing at over 3k RPM's. I run about 2700 with 3.73's at about 80 mph.
BlakeW5 02-15-2006, 03:42 PM Throw some nitrous and radial (or slicks) on it and you should be down there with him, if he's even telling the truth. Who knows he could just be throwing the 5 grand number around to scare you out of it. All in all, racing him for five grand is dumb though, unless you wipe your ass with hundred dollar bills...
BlakeW5 02-15-2006, 03:44 PM Yeah, 4.11's in a auto is not a good idea, especially if you drive it alot on the highway, you'll be crusing at over 3k RPM's. I run about 2700 with 3.73's at about 80 mph.
He doesn't have an auto (in case you're talking about original poster)
IdahoLT1 02-15-2006, 07:10 PM So did you just get done watchin 2 fast 2 furious. you know the part where they race for slips against the fonz and that other grease monkey that give domestics a bad name. cuz i dont think a small time racer will be frontin 5k on a single race unless he fell on his head. Id say if you were in the 9's, had all the traction in the world, and owned your car for years and have been racing for 30 years then i would say go for it. you just never know what will happen in a race. and if you do win youll have to invest some more money in a bat and end up breakin his legs cuz he wont give you the money. Kinda like mel gibson on payback.
1BadAzzGT 02-15-2006, 07:16 PM My exp with most Mustang owners is all bark no bite, but you never know. scout his car, doing anything and everything to win, is worth 5g's!!!!:D :D :D
toegead93 02-15-2006, 08:43 PM You dropped over a second off your E.T and gained almost 9mph just from a 3.73 to 3.42 swap?
He never posted how awful his 60' time was when he ran the 14.1. His car with a good driver should have run 12.9's before the gear swap.
If you racing unknown cars for $5,000 grand come down to Florida and I'll race you for pink slips;)
1BadAzzGT 02-16-2006, 07:37 AM Okay, like I said, You never know! I would think pulling up to a 4.6 GT that I would walk you, then I would end up saying, "You never know"! Nice 4.6 by the way.
Thank you kind sir. I'm trying to run much faster this year and yes it's streetable. :D Never got to try the transbrake just yet. Hopefully this season. You're right though, you never ever know what someone has done to their car.
Regards,
Tim
macdaddyZ28 02-16-2006, 08:06 PM Ok yall good points, Let me start off by saying, Dissing me for awful 60' times is kinda chikenshi*. Besause like I said, It was my first run EVER!!! So step off. But at 80, I am pullin about 2 grand. And racing for slips? I mean I aint the smartest tird in the toilet, but yea, no slips, sorry! And as far as the fast and furious comment, step off. You aint gotta hate. That movie sucked really bad. Horrible acting. But that part where the import got lead poisoning was the best! Man just for good conversations sake, if you havent got something to say other than talking shi*, step off dees nutz. Oh yea and I found out today that he is runnin nos...not sure how much. But I know for sure that if i match his shot, then its like the song says "Another one bites the dust" . So I aint to worried about it. Oh and for the hater on my 60' foot times the are as follows my first slip, run #1, and my best slip run #6. So i am now up to eight runs. You know thats like making fun of a little kid that is learnin to walk and he falls down. BUT anyways
me#1VS/cousins99Trans am(auto) / my best after gear swap,(alone)
R/t .929 / .690 / .673

mph 103.29 / 98.69 / 112.26
There it is. NOw before yall think about talking crap, remember that I had my car for a lil over a month by then, regular street tires, not even z rated!
So yea yall i am still learnin the launch. And the track.
On that first run It was like racing on glass, I was pulling 5 grand when I dumped the clutch! so I hit the rev limiter about 4 times then eased off and shifted, then through 2nd, bouncing off the limiter, then through third, hit the limiter once. Hooked up in fourth, and passed my cousin at the end of the track. Now keep in mind that i had the street racing mentelity, Because on the srteet, about the time I go under the light I am hooked up. But man that track is slick. So I still have alot to learn, And I aint racing him for 5, maybe, MAYBE 2, but not even before july neways!

Ain't nobody hatin ... everyone has to start somewhere. Get your groove on :D
00cls1camaross 02-16-2006, 08:44 PM You dropped over a second off your E.T and gained almost 9mph just from a 3.73 to 3.42 swap?
dummy... you should learn how to read
im thinking about switching from 3.23 to 2.73 and i am hoping to drop a second of my time.... sweems logical with a lower gear ratio you run quicker times
1BadAzzGT 02-16-2006, 09:18 PM I remember when your times where...if think back like high 12's or something, I have been gone for like two years but congrats on the 11's in the car! I think somone should outlaw ebonics on this site, "deez nuts"? Wasn't that a rap song from like 6th grade?
Deez nuts was from uhh.... Dr. Dre you know dis ****. LOL.
Yes my turd a few years ago was running 12.2 around 117/118 with a stock motor and the blower pushing around 6-7 psi. I haven't given up and would like to see high 9's/low 10's but we'll see how it goes. I have a brand new combination (new motor, blower, etc) for 2006. Yaaaay.
Thanks on the 11's dude... it's been a long road and I haven't quite given up just yet. But the car has come a long way. By the way and not that it matters, however, that 11.2 run was done at full weight, full interior, full everything like I drive it on the street. ;)
1BadAzzGT 02-16-2006, 09:30 PM That's bad ass, you'll be seing 10's in no time! What is the fastest 4.6?
No idea sorry.
93hpz28 02-16-2006, 10:01 PM this may sound stupid, but racing for 5000 does also, race for emblems. I did that with a friend of mine and put his snake emblems next to my exhaust. Talk about bragging rights, he hates it!!!
toegead93 02-18-2006, 12:11 PM MacDaddy..Calm down dude. Look at my post again and re-read it. I in no way was talking trash about you. Someone thought is was impossible to drop from a 14.x run to a 12.9 run with a gear swap. It was obvious to me that the cause for the 12.9 run was a good 60' time and the reason for the bad run was "awful" 60' time. You then post a 2.5second 60' time, that in my mind and in the mind of many awful, or bad, not good, shi**y; you can call it what ever you want, the word I chose that day was "awful". Sorry if you take offence to me for pointing out to someone why you improved so much. Believe me, I know from experience...I had a 16.x run my first time out with an even shi**ier 60' time than you. ;)
Back to the Mustang. You know he has has nitrous, but you don't know if his engine is stock or not. If it is stock he probably it isn't too much faster than you. If he has a built motor that can handle a lot of spray you are in trouble. Nitrous might be a good idea for you. I wouldn't stake a lot of money unless you have something up your sleeve.
JakeRobb 02-18-2006, 12:36 PM I wouldn't count on your rear end holding up if you throw a big shot of nitrous at it, especially w/ gears and slicks. So basically, the race is either going to make you $2500 or lose you $7500.
IMO, anyone who wants to race for that kind of money is either (a) not going to pay if they lose or (b) is going to run 9's or better.
Racing for any significant amount of money, outside of organized competition, is stupid. Spend your money on making your car faster. If this guy won't race you for a few bucks (or better yet, for free), tell him to screw off.
Is this car your daily driver, or can you afford to have it out of commission for a while? It's really cheap to be able to go fast once. It's really expensive if you want to be able to do it any time you want.
JakeRobb 02-18-2006, 12:40 PM Also -- find another track! At any of the tracks I've been to, I can light up first if I'm not careful, and I can get a good bark out of second, but third and fourth just hook. And this is on street tires!
Mikie 02-18-2006, 11:16 PM I know....
Lets have a spelling contest :D
Winner gets $5,000 a bottle of (nos) and two tickets to RACE WARZ....lol
hehehmule 02-28-2006, 05:38 PM First time I've been on the board in about four years. This post is like stepping back in a time machine. Camaro/Mustang, 2 second gear swap, BadAzz still fighting the bowtie brigade (albeit at a much faster pace, very nice BA) and someone actually told people to "step off"!!!! If Bauerstealth and Snorman had been here you could have convinced me I dreamed the last four years :)
JCCamaro 02-28-2006, 06:06 PM Ask him to take you for a ride, get him to show you what it can do (To see why he wants to run for $5000), and then you should take him for a ride in yours.
