Vert with a 5 or 6pt bar, how fast legally?

I read up on some old posts, and it looked like verts with 5 or 6pt bars could only go 10.99 according to NHRA rule. But I found here:

http://www.wolferacecraft.com/detail.aspx?ID=232

It says to 10.0

I need to know how fast I can go with one of their 5 or 6 point bars, legally. I will not install a full cage. Im buying parts for my engine build, and am debating forged or not. If I can go 10.0, I may forge and spray it, but if its 10.99 I can build it a little cheaper, and use just a little spray to get me there if needed.

I would recommend buying forged internals. The price difference isn't that bad.

This is from the 2006 NHRA rule book ET/Sportsman section for a T-Top. 11.49 to 11.00 requires a roll bar and 10.99 and below, or 135 MPH will require a 6 point cage (can't remember the other end of the ET cage requirement). Check with your NHRA Division Tech person, or local track tech people to be sure.

A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

I believe there are some minor changes in the 2006 rule book for roll bars and cages (non-convertables). For example; you can "now" run an 11.50 without a bar, then 11.49 to 11.00 requires a bar. Then 10.99, or 135 MPH is the next break-point and requires a cage. Don't have my rule book with me now, so I'm working from recall.

Here's what it says in the 2006 rulebook:

Roll Bar
Roll bar mandatory in all cars(including T-tops) running 11.00 to 11.49, in convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49 and in all dune buggy type vehicles running 12.00 seconds and slower.

Roll Cage
Roll cage mandatory in cars running 10.99 or quicker or any car exceeding 135mph. In full bodied cars, with unaltered firewall, floor, and body(from firewall back, wheeltubs permitted), running between 10.00 and 10.99, roll bar permitted in place of roll cage. In convertibles running 10.99 or quicker or exceeding 135 mph, roll cage mandatory. Cars running between 7.50 and 9.99 must have chassis inspected every three years by NHRA and have a seralized sticker affixed to cage before participation.

So according to the 2006 rulebook a vert needs a roll bar from 13.49 down to 11.00 and a roll cage if it runs quicker than 10.99 or exceeds 135 mph.

I couldn't remember the exact details on the convertibles (don't have my rule book with me). Independant of the NHRA rule book, I believe some tracks are incorrectly requiring a cage at 10.99. Whereas, as you have pointed out, a bar is permitted in place of the cage for full bodied cars, Etc., down to 10.00.

Price difference between a forged eagle rotating assy in a block machined for 4 bolt mains, and a cast steel eagle crank/sir rods in a 2 bolt main block, is over $1000 the way I figure it. If Im able to reuse a stock crank, thats even cheaper...

What does a full cage look like compared to the 6 point bar?

What may not be apparent from the diagram is that there is also a bar which runs along the windshield header connection the two side frams.

Yea, just after I posted that I found pics on wolfes website. Its worse than I though. No way in hell. That rule is BS if you ask me. What makes a hardtop roll bar car safe to go 9.99 and a vert with the same bar only safe to 10.99  That little piece of fiberglass on top of the car dont make that big of difference. I wanted to run at least mid 10's. Oh well. Looks like Ill have to build a racecar one of these days, and keep the vert as a fast cruiser.
