Reality check on seat weights
Reality check on seat weights
We've seen some "interesting" weights quoted for power seats so I dragged the bathroom scale out the the garage and collected some real data.
1999 Camaro Leather Power driver's seat: 40.4 lbs
1999 Camaro Leather manual passenger's seat: 32.2 lbs
Sparco Evo on Camaro adapter and for/aft slider: 37.8 lbs.
So we add a whopping 10.2 lbs per power seat.
Most of us can cut more weight than that off the at the dinner table ... and those weight savings can be easily moved from car to car.

Well like I said in the other thread, I wouldn't order it as a standalone, but if it were bundled w/ a pacakge that I wanted, I wouldn't have a problem w/ them. Thats what ended up w/ our Impala. We wanted leather, and ended up w/ power pax seat and heated seats as well. Just part of the deal.
Re: Reality check on seat weights
I wish my car had power seats? How the hell do you have a car with heated seats but not power seats? IT JUST DOESNT MAKE SENSE! Only GM can do that.
I want a camaro with power leather seats.

Re: Reality check on seat weights
Well, if I were a dreamer, I'd take it with manual cloth seats and no A/C....and a live axle, of course. I like power windows though.
However, I'm a realist, and understand perfectly that GM must build for cost efficiency.

hmm, the Momo Rookie seat in my 240Z only weighed only 15 lb with its dual ratcheting slider (no adapter required).
Then again, it is a fixed fiberglass shell, no recline action!
I agree that power seats isn't the major weight concern. I'm sure the weight difference between 4th gen manual and 4th gen power seats would be even less than the 10.2 lb difference between 4th gen power seat and Sparco Evo with adapter cited above.
Still, I think power seats should only be an option.
Power windows/locks may as well be standard equipment, though. Way back in the late 80s (early 90s?), Porsche was making a 911 "lightweight", and they used power windows in it because overall they were lighter than the manual windows!
