Boost loss with intercooler

How much boost will be lost, throw the intercooler and piping......

The answer will depend on how much piping. Vortech claims their short piping distance helps to reduce pressure drop compared to the long intake track associated with the Procharger air/air cooler. I don't know the actual numbers, but I went from a 9# of boost non-cooled to 10# of boost using the Vortech aftercooler and a Brad Brand solid intake tube (replaced the drier ducting). Of course the solid intake tube helped me.

Keep in mind that there will be a pressure loss regardless if the intercooler is actually going to work. It has to "scrub" the heat off which itself causes friction and a pressure loss. Cooler air will also be denser of course, this is what you're after and that results in a loss. There are other places to minimize frictional losses such as your tube connections. Making the tubing fit tight without long spans of rubber to make the connection pays dividends if done throughout the system. Work on keeping "lips" out of the airstream. Clamp location can help this. Try not to neck anything down if possible as well, sometimes it may be unavoidable.

According to Bell intercoolers, your pressure drop should be less than 10% of the boost level. So, at 10 psi, you aim for less than 1 psi loss. At 20 psi, the goal is less than 2 psi. Anything less than that will have diminishing returns.

I am asking, because i am doing a FMIC in the next month and i am going to play with running the piping....and see what i cam do with it..it will be all 3" but i us just wondring about all the bends.....
