Is this cam 224R(XE-R lobes) worth the beating the springs will take to gain a few more hp under the curve vs. a TR or TSP 224 with XE lobes?

Just get the patriot gold spring kit instead of the 918's and don't worry about it. Black9TA8 02-08-2006, 02:16 AM Yeah, I just bought the Patriot LS6 style heads and they come with the gold dual springs. I just don't want to have to change the springs every 10-15k. 30k I could live with. Does anyone know the difference in spring life between the XE and XER 224 lobes? Greed4Speed 02-08-2006, 10:47 AM It varies with how you drive etc. With ANY aftermarket cam you should check your springs at regular intervals. W/those patriot heads you should get the patriot 226/226 cam if its cheaper. I would, but I live in CA and need a smog legal cam. Greed4Speed 02-08-2006, 03:46 PM The 224 has been known to pass, but still may not. It is boarder line. Personally, I don't see why more CA people don't run the CheaTR. It's designed to work better with the restrictions you'll face. Now the 224/228 on a 114 is definately borderline, but most even pass with this cam on a good tune. Sometimes I wish I lived where you do, so I could run what I really want to. I just solved my problem today though.......and ordered a custom cam. Greed4Speed 02-09-2006, 10:33 AM Cool, what specs and who's grind? GPZ28 02-09-2006, 11:14 AM Ive got a 222/224 581 on a 114+4 ready to go in, I live in socal and hope I pass. Got the car smogged yesterday so I have 2 years before I have to worry about it. Black9TA8 02-10-2006, 02:26 AM Cool, what specs and who's grind? It's a 93pony custom. It's a 224/224 .58x"/.56x" on a 114 LSA with no advance. It'll make more peak and "under the curve" power than the OTS cams. I'm just bumbed I have to wait a couple weeks to get it. 00cls1camaross 02-10-2006, 01:00 PM that sounds like a good combination, your going to have to get a dyno chart up on here so i can see what it looks like, i wanted to run something similar to that Black9TA8 02-11-2006, 12:07 AM that sounds like a good combination, your going to have to get a dyno chart up on here so i can see what it looks like, i wanted to run something similar to that I tune my car with hp tuners "on the fly", so I've never dyno'd. I'll probably do the same after the swap. I could stop by force fed and have it dyno'd....I am pretty curious. I'll try and dyno it and post up. There's a guy here that dyno'd a 93pony cam, with midlengths and stock heads at 400/395. I'm thinking I should make some nice #'s with the addition of stage II heads 10.75:1 compression and longtubes. MY friend just moved there and want's me to move. I heard they are pretty strict like CA also. Do they have the roller dyno sniffer, or just OBDII check? 00cls1camaross 02-11-2006, 02:21 AM just the obdII scan, they dont do a sniff test or tailpipe emisions... i was just at pro dyno and they said they had 800hp camaros passing emissions with flying colors lol so they arnt that hard -Dakota Black9TA8 02-11-2006, 06:15 AM just the obdII scan, they dont do a sniff test or tailpipe emisions... i was just at pro dyno and they said they had 800hp camaros passing emissions with flying colors lol so they arnt that hard -Dakota Im jealous! That's good to hear. 00cls1camaross 02-11-2006, 05:42 PM yep, makes me happy so when i decide to hit the h/c set up in future years, ill have no problems! | ||
