Best Clutch for $$ (have researched a bit)

Well basicly what the title says. I need a clutch kit for a good price. Not really looking to spend much more then 500$. I was planning to use the stock flywheel and just get it re machined. Was looking into spec a bit, but yet people seem to have problems with them seems like. Also looking at Mcleod clutches. What have some of your experiences been with your clutches, and how'd the install go with them. This will be my first time ever replacing a clutch. Any advice appreciated.

Not sure on the brands. I've heard horror stories abotut he SPEC clutches. I'm looking at the Centerforce clutch myself.

I CAN, however help you w/ the install.

1- Remove tranny (crossmember and trans mount, DS, TQ arm, electrical connections, BH bolts, shifter and boot)

2- Remove pressure plate. There are about 6-8 bolts surrounding the outer ring of the pressure plate. (Clutch disk will come w/ it.)

3- Place new PP and clutch disk against fly wheel. To hold PP/clutch disk in place on FW, HAND THREAD all PP bolts into FW. USE THE ALIGNMENT TOOL supplied w/ kit. (This might be a good time to replace the Pilot bearing(center of FW) and the release bearing) Center the alignemt to the center of the PP. Make sure the tool is fully seated in the pilot bearing. (prying on the tool to align CD) Also, apply some grease to the the splines of the clutch disk for easier tranny install.

4- Once the CD Splines are centered in the PP, torque the PP mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern to the proper specs.

5- Fun part..... Re-install tanny. -Don't forget the release bearing. It might take some fenagling and twisting to get the input shaft to slide into the CD splines and into the pilot bearing. DON"T PACK GREASE IN THE PILOT BRNG! You won't get the input shaft in! lightly run the grease around the inside edges to lube it.

Have fun... It's realy not that hard.

Mcleod has another model besides the street twin. Its some "HD" clutch or something like that I believe. Do you know anything about that and what kind of power that can handle?

Id say SPEC stage 4 depending on your mods/goals...

Goals are within the next 2 years or so to be making close to 400 hp. Might not happen, but hopefully. But arent clutch disks replacable with whatever pressure plate I get?

Has anybody used the Spec stage 1 clutches or any of the RAM clutches? If so how'd the work out for ya.
