315 Nittos good on 9.5" wheels?
315 Nittos good on 9.5" wheels?
i read a thread a while ago on thirdgen.org that explained how you can put 315 Nitto 555R's on a 9.5" wheel. it basically said the nittos are measured a little smaller so you can get away with the wider number size but still on the not as wide wheel. anyone have any experience or knowledge about this?
Re: 315 Nittos good on 9.5" wheels?
really? i know you are supposed to do the 11" wheels when you go bigger than like a 275 but like i said, i heard the nittos work good but it was only from a few people so i was looking for more thoughts.

This is a very controversial subject.
Yes, you can make 315's fit on a 9.5" rim.
Yes, a lot of people have run them with no problems.
Yes, a lot of people like the way it looks.
No, it is not recommended as it offers little (if any) performance gain, degrades handling, and may cause tire failure.
*shrug*

You will be fine, people act like the very second that you pull out onto the highway, that a tire is going to blow when you get up to speed. Not one person that says that it is a problem has ever given a first hand account of a 315 tire failure because it was mounted on a 9.5" rim.

I have run 315 nittos for years. At first I used them on 9.5 wheels. Now I run them on 11" ZR1s. One of my friends runs Nitto 315s on his Supra... which has 17x9.5 (may even be 17x9). They fit fine on the 9.5 wheel. It is true that the 315 Nitto runs a little narrower. Honestly... the 315 Nitto really doesn't look much wider than the 275 I run up front. I don't think my last set of Dunlop SP8000s would have fit as well.
If you run a regular radial, you may have some of the problems mentioned above. If you run the Nitto DR... you will be fine.

Re: 315 Nittos good on 9.5" wheels?
i talked to another member that is running 315 sumitomos on 9.5" wheels. he said he had to cut away some of the inner fender crap, but other than that they are great he said. dont hook up worth a **** tho, but thats expected at 107 bucks a tire.
Re: 315 Nittos good on 9.5" wheels?
I have ran them on a 17x9 wheel, and my friend has done the same. I worked at a tire shop for 5 years and always mounted wider tires on narrow rims and never once had one fail on me. mounting a Narrow tire on a wider rims causes problems. But I have never had a problem with a wider tire on a narrow rim. I actually just ordered another set of Nittos for my 17x9 Firehawks.
As everyone has said, Nitto tires are measured narrower. Compare a 315 nitto to a 315 BFG and no matter what anyone says, there is a huge difference.
Nittos you can get away with it, anything else, probably not.

well i have assurance that a sumitomo will work and so will the nitto. so now i think im gonna do the sumitomos and save my rear end from burnouts and hard launches.
