383 LT1. Want Boost. Change Cam?

History:
I have just completed a year long build-up/Install of my 1995 TA 383 LT1. Originally the plan was to have a strong N/A motor and add nitrous.

Specs:

383, fully forged, fully ported,
Cam = 234/242, .568"/.549", 109 LSA
11.5:1 compression.
more info at my cardomain page - link below

I'm hoping to make around 400-410 N/A

Questions:

How much boost could this motor typically handle?
Is is absolutely necessary to change the cam?

Thanks for any info.

Yikes! I'm usually pretty liberal when it comes to turbo cams and compression ratio's, but your's are both pretty wrong.

That cam MIGHT be okay, as long as you use a T-6 turbo and get the backpressure down to 1x or 1.5x boost. If you're stuck with a T-4 turbo like most of us, then you're going to have backpressure 2.5x boost, which will have pretty bad exhaust pollution of the intake charge.

As for the compression ratio, that's borderline naturally aspirated. Let alone boosted.

My answer: change the cam and compression, then install the turbo.

I figured that would be the answer. I'm just starting to learn about Forced Induction.

Thanks Mike.

Stick with the nitrous and just buy 2 bottles instead of one. :)
