I have not had much of a problem with the smog checks. OBD2 cars have to have all readinesss tests complete. All emmissions systems have to be present and working. All cars have to run on the dyno and can't have an SES light on. Headers and CAI's must have a CARB EO number and you must have the EO decals that came from the manufacturer.
How strict these rules are will depend on the place you have do the smog check. Plus the prices will vary depending on location as all tests are done by independant stations.
Make sure you do the following items before the test:
Change engine oil
Change spark plugs
Drive the car on the freeway or highway for at least 1/2 hour to make sure everything is up to temperature.

thats not too bad i guess,my 96 is relatively stock,headers,cai,160*stat and a madz tune all i have to do is add the cats and reinstall the rear o2s
my 95 is a lil different,383 small cam that has passed cali.emiss. according to a few posts i have read,hi-flo cat to be installed, bbk headers,t76 hangin out back 14-20psi depending on my attitude;)the only problem i see is this car has a t400 instead of an OD.
i have a 90rs thats getting an lt1 and a rear mount turbo also
lastly an 88 s15,stock 350/700 guess i will be puttin cats on it too

The headers have to be CARB EO certified. That is the only problem I see with the 95.
The S15 will have to go to the referee station and they will check all the serial numbers for the year of the engine - LT1 into S15 (excellent !!!!!) is Ok carbed 350 will not fly.
The T400 should not be an issue as the test is run at 15 and 25mph. It is not checked that I am aware of.

I have relocated magnaflow cats and passed smog about a mongh ago.
The tech never questioned my exhaust system, even though it's quite
different that the stock setup. Plus everything on my mods list except
the OBDI PCM.
i have no cats, and an obdI pcm in my car...not smog friendly :o
