I have a 94 sunbird with 123k on it and looking at the Valvoline Blend..... wdtiger 01-29-2006, 04:09 AM My beater cars have always gotten the cheapest s**t i could find. Dave89IROC 01-29-2006, 06:46 AM My beater cars have always gotten the cheapest s**t i could find. bingo jchevy 01-29-2006, 12:49 PM walmart supertech oil and filter. slayer6x6 01-29-2006, 02:01 PM The old oil from my SS. J/K I get free oil from work so I use mobil. Kwiksilverz28 01-29-2006, 03:22 PM Penzoil. May be your beater, but you rely on it. I had a car blow a heater hose on the way home from work, and I drove it to my buddies parts store. When I stepped on the clutch as I turned into the parking lot, it shut off. I turned the key, and it just clunked. Went inside, bs'd for 20 minutes, put a new hose on, filled it up with coolant, and drove it for another 3 years and probably 30k miles. I chalk it up to good lubrication and maintance. The car had 150k on it at that point, and ran perfect the day I sold it. If it wasn't rusty and no A/C, I would have brought it to FL with me.... The savings of no name crap oil is not worth it... at least in my opinion.... 2000GTP 01-29-2006, 03:31 PM The old oil from my SS. As for the question, I just threw in some Pennzoil and a Fram filter on my old beater. Silver 01-29-2006, 03:47 PM If you take a look at some of the MSDS sheets, you'll find oils like NAPA's house brand is Valvoline, Advanced's house brand is Havoline, etc. That can save you up to $1/quart sometimes. JaysGone 01-29-2006, 04:54 PM  My 95 Merc gets the oil I take out of my Z:eek: :D :) Fuels94TA 01-29-2006, 07:03 PM walmart supertech oil and filter. Ditto on the walmart stuff. Cant bet the price for full service under $15. Joe Bellman 01-30-2006, 07:06 PM Ditto on the walmart stuff. Cant bet the price for full service under $15. Same here. That supertech filter is made by Champion so its not like its a total POS.......better than Fram 94BlackBowtie 01-31-2006, 10:28 AM So let me get this strait... The cars that you guys are depending on everyday are the ones that you are treating WORSE than the ones you drive every once in a while? Not even equal? For my truck that sits a lot - Amsoil Synthetics - 100% in EVERYTHING (as in oil, tranny, rear, etc.). For my beater Camaro - Mobil 1. For my wife's beater Cavalier - Mobil 1. If I am depending on it, and it is getting the miles racked up, I want it be the most dependable machine I have. My truck is a lot more machine than my Camaro - but the only reason I have it on the fully synthetic's is because of their "sticking" power. If your gonna skimp - skimp on the tire shine. ;) You're depending on the beater. khojo16 01-31-2006, 06:44 PM go with Royal Purple Synthetic and a nice Fram filter :p thats wut im using in my 96 Formula (daily driver) ninjalogan 02-01-2006, 10:06 AM Everything I have gets Wix or ACDelco filters and Mobil1 or Havoline. Only reason I'm using Havoline at the moment is because I just dumped a balanced and blueprinted 350 into my 4x4 and since I don't drive it a lot I'm trying to make sure it gets broken in properly. When I finally get my 79 Mercedes running enough for a daily driver, I'll be using Rotella 15-40 in it until I can find a diesel rated full synth. that I like. jsetzer 02-01-2006, 11:33 AM Castrol in everything I drive. My motorcylce I ran Rotella 15-40. Helped that damn wet clutch. sabre81 02-01-2006, 12:55 PM I use non-synthetic Mobil in the beater. pearlpurple 02-01-2006, 02:54 PM 2004 Impala and 2000 S10 will continue to be a reputable blend of dino/synthetic with reputable filter, changed regularly. Maintenance to daily drivers is equally as I sure do not want to be walking when it is 30 below. sabre81 02-01-2006, 03:00 PM 2004 Impala and 2000 S10 will continue to be a reputable blend of dino/synthetic with reputable filter, changed regularly. Maintenance to daily drivers is equally as I sure do not want to be walking when it is 30 below. Do you mix the oil yourself or is it a brand of a synthetic blend? pearlpurple 02-01-2006, 05:44 PM Do you mix the oil yourself or is it a brand of a synthetic blend? It's a brand bought in a jug. What ever brand is the cheapest. DJR 87 Z 02-01-2006, 06:18 PM I agree with taking care of the beater,if you dont it will burn up money in repairs that you can otherwise use on your camarocastrol in all my cars bolek 02-01-2006, 06:35 PM Royal Purple. I drive it a lot and I got tired of changing oil every 4 weeks.:) cammed_aro Z28 02-01-2006, 11:47 PM i agree with many of these guys about not skimping just because its a beater. good oil is money well spent. i like to use valvoline max life in my winterbeater, it helps stop leaks and stuff, and yes it really works, i know. my bravada just rolled over to 205000 miles yesterday on my way to work and it starts right up every day with no smoke. (kinda weird for a 4.3) i bought it from the original owner and he put the first 160000 on it and always had it dealer maintaned and stuff. i go about 6000 miles between oil changes in my winter beater but hey. i look at it like this, whats another 5 or 6 dollars? who cares. take care of your car and it will last forever. its like putting in cheap gas when your "broke", if your only putting in $5 your getting like an extra cup of gasoline. 'ooohhhhh' no i can go all over town!!! PWR-TRIP 02-02-2006, 01:11 AM and a nice Fram filter Nice huh? I don't know man i heard...Again HEARD that fram filters drop your oil pressure. I don't know if thats true or not. Dave89IROC 02-02-2006, 05:27 AM fram is NOT he best filter out there, for thr same price you can get a ac delco, or a wix khojo16 02-02-2006, 10:30 AM i didnt say fram was the best...but they arent absolutely terrible...and ive never had a problem with using a fram... khojo16 02-02-2006, 10:31 AM then again i never used a fram on my formula...i used ac delco filters with royal purple oil.....the fram is wut i use on the beater...96 saturn sc2 | ||
