How can I make my headlight on my TA stop vibrating?Huntr1117 01-27-2006, 09:18 AM I noticed that my drivers side headlight vibrates when I'm driving. It's driving me crazy. JeffsWorld 01-27-2006, 11:26 AM good question... 97z28/m6 01-27-2006, 01:53 PM buy a camaro? Birdie2000 01-27-2006, 03:55 PM My driver's side light did this too. I made it a little better by putting more tension on the limiter cable that attaches to it. I did this by bending the little bracket on the end of the cable. Kinda crude, but it helps a little. I'd like to know how to make it perfect too... Huntr1117 01-28-2006, 01:34 PM buy a camaro? Good answer:D , but I like my TA too much. At least I'm not the only one with this problem. drivefast4fun 01-28-2006, 03:32 PM From what I have seen when doing my custom lights for my car is that there could be excessive play in the headlight motor itself, you might have some screws that have worked loose from vibration, or that little steel cable on the bottom has too much slack in it. I would start with the cable. Just be careful not to break the little clip, otherwise you might have to get yourself some little cable like that (Menards I think sells it), and open the light to the point it needs to be, then lower it just a tinnnnyyyyy little bit and wrap the screw with the cable to make a new stop for it. Actually, try checking for the loose screws, then the cable. But this is only my opinion on it. 69z-28 01-28-2006, 03:40 PM mine does it too, doesnt bother me and people will usually get in the right lane after a while in front of me:) Fastbird93 01-28-2006, 08:49 PM Just a thought but couldn't it be the nylon gear in the motor?? If this is the case, then one of Brent Frankers brass gears would solve that problem. Huntr1117 01-28-2006, 11:00 PM Actually, I do have one of Brents Brass gears in already. The pass. side still has the stock gear in it. Grims 01-30-2006, 01:14 PM I ahve the same problem, no play in the motor, and one of brents egars. passenger side also has no problems. v7guy 01-31-2006, 01:36 PM you can also check where the headlight bracket mounts to the the body of the car. Brent94Z 02-02-2006, 11:59 AM I think there is a plastic bushing that needs to be replaced "somewhere" in the raise/lower arm mechanism. I don't have any additional details on this... just going from memory in what somebody told me. So, check out all parts associated with the raise/lower arm and see if you can find a bushing somewhere... I think it is the one up on the light itself. Good luck! bt95formula 02-02-2006, 01:45 PM I had the same problem. The last response is probably what it is. Mine was missing this grommet, causing the light to bounce around on the arm. I just wrapped the end in electrical tape at the time to fill the gap. Has worked just fine for over a year now. Huntr1117 02-02-2006, 05:14 PM I had the same problem. Usefulidiot 02-03-2006, 01:17 AM haha yea i wondered the same thing but it pisses people off infront of me and they get out of my way so i like it ahaha 1quickTA 02-03-2006, 09:27 AM If it happens when they go up and down, your gear is worn out. Go to http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/headlightfix/index.htm and buy those gears. They are worth every penny of not having to deal with that vibrating again (because once it happens once, it will continue to happen often until you get a metal gear!) bt95formula 02-06-2006, 01:21 PM Sorry, no pics or access to dig camera right now Charging TA 04-22-2006, 05:20 AM Any more information? I hate to bring back old topics but just trying to figure out whats causing this. I can move the headlight up a bit by hand and its not in the motor, its somewhere in the raise/lower arm linkage, just cant figure it out. firebirdStud 04-22-2006, 02:57 PM I tightened the cable, took all slack out of it and mine went away. It works, so try it! and it is free... :D Charging TA 04-25-2006, 03:47 AM I started thinking about this more... I recently had the gear on the passenger side get a chunk taken out of it so I replaced that, that side doesnt vibrate now (dont remember if it did before either) but the drivers does, and what I am thinking is maybe that side too needs a gear, since if it has a "loose" gear because the gear is supposed to hold pressure on the stopper when the lights are up. Know what I mean? Im gonna try to spend some time and figure out a solution, when you take the top cover off there are two bolts in the back that hold the assembly, my has some slack in it but I think its mean to be there and without taking the whole thing apart I cant find a way to tighten it (or maybe Ill weld up a torx bit to a small metal bar)... maybe theres supposed to be a bushing in this area? LT1Formulation 04-25-2006, 09:24 AM I checked mine last night and it appears a bushing is missing on the arm where it attaches to the light. Now I have to figure out how to remove the pin to replace it... ram57ta 05-07-2006, 02:37 PM This has bothered me for about a year on my passenger side headlight so I took a look into the problem today and found the rivet that secures the limiting cable to be really loose. I tightened the cable by bending the tabs slightly and presto....problem solved. | ||
