jonnybassman123 01-26-2006, 11:18 PM My drivetrain and sway bars are corroding and chipping a lot. I noticed it when I put in my flowmaster. Anyone have any recommendations? Can I fix this problem or should I just cut my loses and get another car? I post pictures tomorrow!
TraceZ 01-27-2006, 06:38 AM Once a car is exposed to salt it is a death sentence. You can only postpone the inevitable. I'd recommend keeping an eye on it and selling the car right before it becomes really apparent to the "casual observer".
2000GTP 01-27-2006, 07:11 PM Is it just the driveshaft, lower control, arms, torque arm, and sway bar that are rusted or is it the floorboards and everything else as well. If just the suspension and chassis parts are rusted, I wouldn't worry too much about that, but if the floorboards are rusting out then you might have some problems in the future.
jonnybassman123 01-27-2006, 10:22 PM It is the driveshaft, lower control, arms, torque arm, and sway bar rusting. I'll post pictures the floorboards are immaculate and so is the gas tank! How does rust killer work? Is it good or just bull****?

Sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying the actual chasis was rusting.
If it is just a little surface hazing on suspension components it is pretty easy to have them blasted and repaint them.
jonnybassman123 01-27-2006, 10:31 PM sand blasting?
TraceZ 01-28-2006, 12:05 AM sand blasting?
Absolutely. Lower control arms, panhard rod, driveshaft... all those pieces can be blasted and refinished to look better than new. Or, you can replace many of those components with aftermarket pieces that are both superior in function and form.
Intercooler 01-28-2006, 01:27 AM My truck has more than a little. Almost all of that stuff can be wire brushed and POR-15 coated (Paint Over Rust). That or convert it to black oxide and paint it. POR looks like powdercoating when applied right and will stop rust from coming back.
Guess they don't have picture posting here?
silentsprintero 01-28-2006, 01:44 AM when i had my V6 there was a tiny tiny bit of rust on the floorboard area and i just used a wire brush to get all the loose particles free then used a rust killer (can't remember the name but looked like red donut jelly) and a black primor/spraypaint/rust protectant and it worked out great

POR15 is a great product. Picture posting works.

jonnybassman123 01-28-2006, 10:44 AM Any performance part numbers on the diff, sway, and suspension that work well for our v6?
Z28 sway bars are larger diameter than the v6 bars. i have a set in great condition avail for cheap :)

jonnybassman123 01-28-2006, 12:12 PM How would the larger size affect my flowmasteR??

This is a good idea. I'm puting the 1LE bars on my Z28 this spring and will have the stock Z28 bars laying around as well. Maybe I should put them on my V6 car if I still have it.
It wouldnt have any effect.

jonnybassman123 01-28-2006, 03:31 PM How much would it affect the control of the car and how much are you selling them for...including shipping costs to massachusetts.
It should make the car more level when cornering. I'll check shipping costs and get back to you. I wont charge much for the actual part b/c i know that shipping might be expensive due to its size.

Chrisz24 01-28-2006, 08:42 PM Last time I was under mine I noticed some rust on the bottom and on the bars and stuff underneath, nothing crazy, just surface rust that happens.
I have a long extension on my garden hose so when I wash the car I use that and hose off the under body so to knock off whatever salt I can:)
