315's for street use

i'm going to have to buy tires for my zr1's. got a deal on some yoko 275's for the front, trying to decide on a rear tire.

car will be driven alot on the street with occasional track use, i may hit the track 4 times top this summer. i'm a broke sob and need the best traction/tread life for the best money. tempted to do dr's but treadlife sucks. since i'm going with 315's i could go a standard tire and still have alot of traction. i know enough not to get z rated tires.

so who makes 315's and which are the best for the money?

thanks
mike

I have the Sumo's. They are great for driving everyday but suck for racing or playing on the street. They are pretty easy to break loose on the street.

My "crappy" 315/35/17 Sumitomo's are treating me pretty good actually. They seem to be wearing well, even after a few extra spins here or there. They hook up well when its nice out, but rain, snow, or excessive cold forget about it. I'd buy them again for $110.

Sumitomo's are really good street tires for the money. Mine have treated me good over the past few years. I think a lot of the people that bash the Sumitomo's talk about the grip of the tire, or I should say the alleged lack there of. Maybe those people just don't know the difference between a street radial and and drag radial! I don't know?

315/35/17 Nitto Drag Radials...They are on my daily driver 400RWHP Trans am. I drive it everyday (also in rain), and let me tell you something they are GREAT!!!
Sebastian
ps. The only drawback from those its is that they will last about 10-12k miles of normal driving...

Re: 315's for street use

When I was running 17s I had the opportunity to do back to back testing with BFG DRs in both the 275s and the 315s...There was absolutely no difference in hooking, so, at the time, I went with the lighter, cheaper 275s...Now I switched to 255s 16s (M/T radials) and they put the 17s to shame...side wall height is where your straight line traction is...front to back contact patch > side to side contact patch...

Re: 315's for street use

I have had NO problems w/ my Sumitomos. I have the HTRZ and I bought them at an excellent deal! You can't ask for a better tire for the price. I will be getting my 315/35/17 Sumitomos tomorrow, and look forward to putting them on.

I bought them for $107 a pop at tirerack.com You can't beat that price. Espcecially when that size tire usually runs $200+ a pop!

Good luck!
