Let GM know what you think!

Personally I hope they totally redesign the interior.

Agree. I loved the interior in my GTO, sharp looking and very driver friendly.

I wouldnt mind SOME aspects of the interior, such as the seats and the seatbelt design and location. However, a redesign is necessary I believe. I dont mind the console gauges, but like was said before, make them the unnecessary gauges.

Are you suggesting the interior looks like a 1969 interior? If so, I just don't see it.
Inspired? Yes.
Retro? Kind of.
Outdated 1969? No way.

I think most of the interior is fine for me except the speedometer and tach. I dont think ill become fond of reading upside down numbers. I think the console gauges are a great touch, too. I say keep them. All that would go in theyre place would be a little cubby just big enough to fit a cell phone and a paper clip.

I prefer a more modern layout, but it seems from reading some of the interviews they are pretty much going off of the concept interior with all of the fancy billet replaced by plastic(as Lutz stated). I don't even care if it is replaced by plastic as long as there is some contrasting color and it doesn't look cheap and stark in there. I think the gauges are kind of neat where they are, but it lessens room for cubby holes or cup holders. I don't think I will have any problems reading from it(not 80yrs old yet), so I don't care for an HUD, I rather have a navigation system as optional equipment.:D

I voted for AS IS with HUD. None of the selections in this poll fit me though. I want it reworked to look like a 69. The numbers werent upsidedown in 69. There was no 4th gen/belair bulge in the dash. I want the white gauges in the console. I want a c6 vette angled glovebox to give it a retro look the way it was supposed to be. to give it the right angle. Theres no reason the gauges should look like wall clocks with alot of chrome and orange around it, as my 69 doesnt. Infact its all blacked out and backlit at night. This has the retro feel of a bigger 57 Belair. Not my beloved 69.

I definately prefer a modern interior. Nice LED gauges, sloped center console, lines that flow into eachother... something like this...

they need something simple, but over the top... elegant and smooth, but in your face and rigid... shiny, but dull....

seriously, the interiors they have been crankin' out in their newest cars (solstice/sky enclave and others) are damn nice, and if they could do a modern version in this camaro I think with the direction they have gone it would be a knockout.

The car needs a modern dashboard to go with the perfect exterior...end of story.

I like the interior as is, but I wouldn't describe it as complete retro. Just as with the rest of the car, it has a very heritage feel about it, but with a modern edge. The interior is a perfect fit for the exterior of the car.

I love the thick 3-spoke wheel and continuation of the orange portion of the dash (also containing the radio/hvac display) into the door panels. :thumb:

This interior is no-nonsense and driver-oriented, just as it should be. Expecting BMW layout and frills is missing the mark.

Absolutely needs the interior reworked on a production car. That was the only part I didn't like, it just looked odd to me. GM/Scott, if you guys read this please consider a redesign on the interior. I LOVED the exterior! Like was mentioned above, you only need to look at the GTO for inspiration.

I agree. Toning down the colors, making the gauges more readable and adding HUD would make the interior liveable IMO.

Keep in mind though, my plans for my future 5th gen are a little different than most. They're more once a week, weekend play/track car than daily driver.

I vote updated.

I don't mind the lines or shapes of the retro interior, but some nice modern gauges with HUD etc would be much better. :)

I voted for updated design plus HUD, but only because the gauges need to be a lot more functional (which I'm sure they will be) Overall, I like the shape of the interior, but am undecided on console gauges (I would want HUD with them) and the radio portion of the dash area.

For me it's a toss up. I love that new interior and I also like the 4th and 3rd gen too.

If they leave it as is i'll be fine with that. If they change it, i'll be fine with that too. I think once you see a price tag on HUD, you won't want it.
We bought an Aztec and the HUD was an extra $7000, we can live without that;) .

I want this car to be affordable, so no HUD, just maybe a few little adjustments, whatever GM thinks should happen. I'll stand by anything that GM does to the car.

I think I might actually like the HUD. The idea of it is starting to grow on me, but I hate those console gauges more every time I look at them.

But, I don't want the Camaro to have a HUD if it is going to drive the price up. I've lived without it so far and I think I can live without it in the future.

One thing I want in the car, make the center console narrow enough at the front that I can comfortably hold my leg straight, or in a comfortable angle while driving. I cant stand when the front of the console mutates at the front into a wide, leg cramping demon.

I see the gauges as the only part that need work. Make them easier to look at and in the right location (not by the shifter). Other than that the simple no non sense design is what we want becuase it allows gm to allocate cost to other more desired parts of the car.

That was because the motor was shoved back under the dash in 4th gen. The motor in 1st and 5th is under the hood again. Guess Im in the minority wanting it changed to more of a retro 69/Vette interior minus what looks like 4th gen/ belair lines. I hope it doesnt loose retro interior all together...

Well from whats been said I guess I'm the odd ball here but when I saw the car the 2 things I first loved about the inside was the seats and the gauges in front of the shifter.

For one thing it looks good and for the other only maybe 5 or 10% of people even look at anything but gas when driving. I think it will sell as something new to most and I am not talking about the hard core performance people on the board. The everyday joe will care less as long as they have the lights to warn them thats its time to look at a gauge. How many on here has been driving around and out of the corner of their eye seen the low fuel light come on maybe not often but I know you have. Same with the other gauges even more so people just do not watch them driving just a few of us is all.

Bullsh!t.

You and I talked a lot, but never about the fact I kinda like the gagues there :D

I admit however that they may be an ergonomic nightmare. I think they look cool, but I want function over form. If when I'm behind the wheel, they're too far out of sight? Scrap 'em...

I keep thinking of a GTO-style interior...with t-tops or a targa, of course :)

I am pretty sure that most of the "Retro Haters" around here are very young. I said most, not all. There seems to be a lot of whining that the Gen 4 cars are not influencing the new design. Personally, I like all the Gens, but the 4th Gen was the car that killed the F body. The "modern" 4th Gen didn't sell why should they repeat that?

I like the guages there. I thought I made that clear earlier. ;)

While I have to admit, my daily driver is a '02 Tahoe LS, and I absolutely love the guage layout on it. However, I grew up with first gen Camaros and learned how to drive Camaros with the console mounted guages. Even with my non-console Camaros I added guages there because, well, that's the only place they'd fit. You really do get used to it after a while, however I can see where it might be frustrating to someone who isn't used to it.

When less people in total like the concept retro interior with or without HUD than those who want modern and don't even care about HUD, you know it's a flop.

btw, i'm 28, own a new GTO and WILL be in the market for a convertible soon. *IF* it becomes obvious that 5th gen will have that stupid ugly interior, i will not wait for it, nor consider it.

There really wasn't an option in this poll for what I wanted.

I'd like the interior from the concept, just with MODERN/REGULAR speedometer and tachomter gauges. The ones by the shifter are fine.

However, GM better not make the same mistake many car companies are making with their sports cars (*cough*Jaguar XK*cough*)... they better offer EVERY SINGLE exterior color with an OPTIONAL ebony/black leather. It makes me SICK thinking of getting a blue Camaro and getting stuck with some disgusting tan/khaki/camel colored leather interior. :yuck:

If you have to stare at the interior 90% of the time you are with your car, shouldn't it be a color you like? :o

Concept interior likes:

-Overall apparent workmanship and assembly quality (AFAIKT from the pics).
-Shape of dash.
-Seats.
-Steering wheel is okay.

Interior dislikes:

- Way too gaudy.
- Shifter is weird and alien looking... I want a regular leather bound shifter.
- Guage cluster on dash - would prefer something that was blended in better with the dash, plus the guages inside are too busy and again, alien looking.
- Floor mounted guages - put them on the dashboard please.

I'd llike a modern interior. The current GTO interior is pretty nice IMO and something along those lines would make me happy.

Hehe... conversely, I hope black or charcol grey aren't the only interior colors. I for one would pick an interior that looks clean for more than a couole of days after I've vacuumed and cleaned it. Yes, I shower every day.. no I don't haul lumber in my back-seat :).Medium light grey with tasteful red accents on the seats and door panels for for me please!

Brangeta
01-25-2006, 06:41 PM
Oh, I totally agree with you, all black shouldn't be the standard, but I have to emphasize that GM allow people to put a black leather interior into ANY color of Camaro.
There can be accent colors (as long as they aren't wood) but I'm totally serious... if I can't get a black or very dark gray... heck, even a pure white leather interior in my blue Camaro, I'm going to have to skip buying. :-\

I'm not really saying that black should be the only color offered; I'm just saying it needs to be available no matter what color the exterior is. Have you ever seen a purple 4th gen with a tan interior? :yuck: not my taste at all.

Modern, in the "spirit" of the concept, not a copy of a '69, just a feeling of it.
Where the console gages used to be, put a NAV/Info station there...the feeling was that, that was the place to look for info.
Full analog gages in the IP, instead of bezels('55 headlights), use slightly raised fiber-optic like outlines, maybe white with int.color coded info displays and red needles.
HUD as an option, or standard on Z28 with delete option.
Make it look current for '09, feeling like the classic...if that makes sense.
One more thing, I hope the lumbar area of the seat isn't so narrow that the side supports let my back barely touch the seatback. I found the 4th gen seats a little uncomfortably narrow, but I only sat in a couple of new ones, maybe they're better when broken in??

I really hate this interior design. I thought it looked old and dated the minute I looked at it. More importantly I think it is ugly.

I want a modern, well styled sporty interior. Something that belongs in a car built in this decade.

If I could vote 100 more times on this issue I would.

Brangeta

Have you actually seen large pictures of it? Many people haven't -- I still laugh about how many people thought the car had wood interior trim . If you still haven't, you'll find that the seats (especially the rear ones) look amazing. The front seats have huge side bolsters and the seat belts come out of the top of them rather than out of the roof like the 4th gens. Really cool seats in the very least.

I don't like the steering wheel, too hard looking, and I'd kinda... oh... I dunno... like to have an airbag . The 'control' stick for wipers and stuff is DEFINITELY on the wrong side. I don't want it to be like a Pontiac (I always manage to hit the windshield wipers when taking the key out), but it doesn't seem to have an ignition for the key anyway... I'm not crazy about having the copper colored stuff in the car, I would much rather a nice, comforting ocean teal color of metal. And the 2 huge gauges aren't to my liking, but the rest looks pretty good to me... I have a lot fewer problems with the interior than I do with the exterior's boxyness.
