No, and they probably legally can't get rid of a lot of them.

Working prototypes, often rude, crude mockups, probably don't have the aesthetic or historical value of the actual concepts, or first/last production cars, and would just take up space in a warehouse if they kept a bunch of redundant copies. For practical purposes (i.e. liability rules, lawyers, emissions/crash rules, etc.), most are not salable to the public.

They do keep their concept/show cars and lots of other historic vehicles (the 1000000th Oldsmobile Cutlass - IIRC - was on display at the Heritage Center for the Camaro event, along with the last T/A made, the last Impala SS, etc.). :)

They have a museum; its not too fancy, and you have to know someone to get in. :)

Theres a little of what you say going on . Remeber the metallic red Grand Am SC/T showcar . GM used it for Sema and various other promotions . There were several one off things in that car . It was parted out on Ebay kinda recently . Not by GM , but a shop contracted by GM to do so . Im sure more of that type stuff goes on .

Unless GM opens up a public museum with all their concepts in one place , I don't have problem with GM selling them off.

Anyone willing to shell-out millions of dollars for a concept will most likely take better care of it then GM would over the decades. So in reality, private ownership of these vehicles might ironically do a better job of preserving them for future generations to see.

Some of the concept vehicles require the new owner to sign a legal waiver stating they will not drive the vehicle on public roads or in some cases to never drive it period nor modify the car in anyway to do so in the future.

Ford sold a bunch of their concepts a few years back, so I don't think there is any legal issues with selling them. Obviously most of them are not designed to be actually driven on the road, and would not pass a state inspection, but I would imagine that would be the new owner's problem.

Should they sell them all? No, but some should go. A major museum for them would be the best answer(though expensive). The '95 El Camino SS should come to live in my garage.:D

That's what I was thinking of. It was a pretty cool deal, they auctioned off a boatload of old concepts in all different types of condition. I'd love for GM to do that
