New Camaro = GTO with new Skin

If you are all in a state of anxiety about the new camaro, why not just go buy a GTO? Comes with the LS2 and IRS.

The new Camaro is riding on a GTO chassis and drivetrain (Australian Holden). Nothing more but sheet metal (plastic) and name badges separate the two.

If GM could convert a GTO into a Camaro and charge an extra five grand, it would have suckers lined up for half a mile down the street.

The Camaro and the GTO are not the same car. For one, the IRS on the Camaro is not the same as on the GTO.

The concept is based on the GTO, from what I understand the production version will not be.

The GTO is a Holden Monaro which is a Holden Commodore which is part of the Holden VZ line.

The Holden VZ is based on General Motors "Omega" chassis. This is the same chassis (with many changes) as was the Cadillac Catera from a few years back.

The new Camaro is based on GM's North American Zeta chassis, which has far more in common with Cadillac's "Sigma" chassis than Holden's soon to be replaced "Omega".

Saying just badges and sheetmetal separate the Camaro and GTO is like saying just metal and badges separate the '96 Impala SS and the current 2006 version because both have a V8 and automatic.

Apples and oranges.

Plus the styling of the GTO is so plain.

I'd rather wait for the better lookin Camaro than just go out and buy the bland GTO.

Both the new Camaro and the new verison of the GTO would be produced on the zeta platform I believe. I would think the Camaro would sell for a few thousand less though. If you want 400hp and IRS, then you can get a GTO now. But, I would imagine the new Camaro would weigh less than the porky current GTO, so performance will be better.

Wouldn't bet the farm on that.

Also, GTO's weight is because it is loaded with every heavy electric motor in the book.

It carries something like 150 to 200 pounds in servo motors alone.

If you are all in a state of anxiety about the new camaro, why not just go buy a GTO?

Because then, you still wouldn't have a CAMARO!

The concept does, mostly an STS chassis, but the production car would have something else.
