U knew a poll was gonna pop up for this :D

My opinion of the concept would change quite a bit with a B pillar in place . I want ALL 4 of my windows down when Im cruisin ;)

perhaps gm and chrysler can work together on a way to have no b- pillar?

It wouldn't bother me, but as brought up by another member they should be blacked out if they do them.

There are advantages to the B pillar, and a lot of the hysteria over the possible placement of them is a little misplaced.

B pillars on a camaro is just plain wrong!

NO B PILLARS....!
One reason I favored a trunk over a hatch, the only way to have the classic open side, Camaro look.

if it means were getting a liftback/hatchback/whateverback i'm ok with it.

What if it was a blacked out narrow B-pillar.

On another note...if the GTO came back as a quad coupe...which are traditionally b-pillarless...why would a Camaro need one?

Think of how it would impact the convertible design.

I wouldn't mind a B-Pillar, as long as it meant we get t-tops, and they black it out as formula79 suggested.

Quoted from Charlie's Welburn quote thread...

GM sources say the production Camaro will be almost 100 percent true to the concept car.

Almost 100%.

OK I'm against the B-pillar structural element on the grounds that it's a trace back to history and there are no engineering/safety issues.

However, what if the B-pillar was blacked out and 'disguised' so that it looks like it's on the inside?

I voted NO, btw. :D

Yeah that is what i was thinking. If the pillar was covered by the quater window, from the outside it would pretty much look like there is none. That is probably the only way this car can be made. It is not safe enough to not have one, and the windows will probably be loud and leak without some sort of proper seal on the windows. Even if it was just a thin skinny one, I would imagine it will be there. But, I could be wrong GM may have something up thier sleeves.

I don't have a problem with a B-pillar if the overall car looks good. I would like for it to stay open like it is in the concept, but like stated maybe they can have a B-pillar that's pretty much hidden by the design/glass. Whether or not it has a b-pillar is really near the bottom of the list of things I'm hoping doesn't get messed up for the production car...

I wouldn't really like a design like the new stangs with little windows stuck in the sides of the canopy though, looks kinda stupid... Not like I'm gonna start a "No B-pillar or I'm not buying" thread though...

How about, I would really prefer no b pillar, but as long as it doesn't look bad, it would not stop me from buying one. Emphasis on preferring no "b" pillar.

have you folks seen the most recent Mercedes Benz CL-Class? Do a Google image search for it.

its a better view from the inside as well as looks better inside out. It also means smaller lighter more reasonable doors that are better when you need to park next to someone.

Did it have to be roll down? In the 69 you roll them down when people arent looking so they dont see you reaching back there to look cool. Everyone always assumes it one cool window that magically extends past the door. Electric is a must.

Looks better, better visibility, and the vert will be designed pilarless anyway. I say no pilars. And h*ll, my 1965 Galaxie 2 door didn't leak, why would should a car designed 40 years later leak? Mustangs have had quarter window verts for 20 years, I've never heard of leaks on them.

Given that most of the people on this site are nuts, all GM has to do is the opposite of what all the polls indicate and they will sell 150,000 a year.

Where did all this B-pillar talk come from?

willz
01-21-2006, 03:57 PM
I think it is probably a rumor that started from the Mopar camp. I heard before all this talk that it might be a problem for the Challenger. I'll bet that it has no B-pillar in production. That is such an integral part of the design and a big styling cue from the first gens. If they didn't think they could do it, it wouldn't have been on the concept.

if they put roll down b-billar windows, that means I now have to worry about 4 window motors going out plus added weight. Is that good or bad?

All depends if those heavy window motors offset the reinforcement needed for B Pillars and huge hatchback.
