Ed 2001 SS 01-19-2006, 03:11 PM For some reason, I want to delete all the pics I have of the concept and just forget about it.
What am I supposed to do with those pics? Wonder what it would be like to buy one? Hope the car gets the OK for production? Hope the car doesn't get nickel and dimed into mediocrity by bean counters? Wait until 2009?
Yes I know this is a case of "Give em an inch and they'll want to take a mile" but, I want to hear something positive about the future already! GM has seen the raging fire that is our desire for a re-incarnation of Camaro, and has thrown 8 ounces of water on that fire with the reveal of the concept. Bring on the fire hose!
...
Maybe I should just get back to work.
:p

Ken S 01-22-2006, 12:01 PM Its kinda wierd to listen to all the people from GM talk about the concept.. and give this impression that they think the 2nd 3rd and 4th gen's were all mistakes that should be stricken from the record.. at least thats the vibe I get.
I read this quote from Lutz that he said the Camaro's got too fancy, too big, too heavy, too much horsepower(whaa?)? Yet the concept they put out, is mostly bigger, heavier, and more hp than just about any Camaro there......
Just some quibbles.. Overall, I am still pleased with the concept.

I haven't seen that quote, wouldn't mind reading it. Any idea where it is? Maybe he's referring to what I've heard from some 'camaro haters' before, that said the camaro was like riding in a boat, etc... Not sure where they get that from, but perhaps he is addressing these people and trying to put their concerns to rest.

So very true.

Finally, I found it..

Once an icon of the American road, the Camaro had its heyday in the late 1970s and early 1980s, luring buyers with its rock-and-roll attitude, muffler-rumbling horsepower and affordable price tag.
But it was phased out in 2002 amid slumping sales.
"They were supposed to be a little crude with a lot of styling and power for the money," said Bob Lutz, GM's vice chairman and product chief. "We got away from that they got so big, so expensive and had so much horsepower that the market got smaller and smaller. The last Camaros had nothing to do with their heritage."
The new Camaro concept nods to that heritage with its retro cues and rear-drive underbody.
"I think the Camaro would bring some enthusiasm that hasn't been around GM in a while," said Brian Chee, managing editor of online auto research site Autobytel.com.
IMO, the last Camaro's 3rd and 4th gen (especially the LS1) paid homage to the 2nd gen's mostly.... Still, this makes sense, because all the talk you hear about is mostly about the 1st gen's.. they kinda sweep the other gen's under the rug..
Although ironically, the late 70's and early 80's were the 2nd and 3rd gens!!!
