How did the Challenger get best concept? Anyone can take a model of a 70s Challenger and just add some fat to it.

Just a theory... and likely a partial one at that...

All those people that are fans of the 70s cars will like the concept since it IS a 70s challenger (but fatter as you say :)) and with better production values, technology and performance (even if it is weighed down).

The Camaro on the other hand is not going to appeal to all Camaro fans because it's so different (which I applaud). The bulk of -ve comments I've seen about the Camaro concept seem to have come from 4th gen fans.

Umm... Best in Show trumps Best Concept, guys-- don't get your panties in a bunch over the fact that the Camaro took top honors...

That is definetly a good thing. It seems like all I read about anymore is foreign cars. It's nice to see the American cars getting some attention, even if they are just prototypes.

I don't think anyone is getting their panties in a wad (who here wears panties anyway? :)). I for one look forward to having another rival on the street (well at least someone to toss a few frirndly revs at since street racing is bad karma) and at the strip.

I agree best in Show is a great honor. Would have been nice to get both but, oh well can't get greedy; have to let the Challenger guys have some glory so that DCX will have more incentive to build it (though I'm guessing it's pretty much a done deal)!

^I agree. What fun would a Camaro be if all there was only ricers and Mustangs to race against?

Trans Ams and Camaros are equal opportunity destroyers. I've thought about painting little Japanese rising sun flags on my door like fighter pilots of old for every time they shot down a "Nagusaki Nut Bucket"

Really? That just doesn't seem likely to me because its safe to say that most people here own a 4th gen and out of those most are 4th gen fans. The concept was well received here so its safe to say 4th gen fans aren't "-ve" about the car. Just the opposite. Me included.

That can only be topped by getting a "Game Over" licence plate for the new Goat.

Morb|d... it wasn't a slight...I own a 4th gen Firebird and have owned a 4th gen Z28, yes I like the 4th gens too. I was only stating the consensus I got from reading all the like/dislike threads on various boards.. I didn't say all 4th gen people hate it.... indeed I said 'Partial theory' in my post.... i.e. something that might explain a few of those f-body owners who didn't like the concept - not ALL of them. No insult intended :).

I don't and won't ever own a 4th gen Camaro as I think they're not that attractive to put it nicely.

I love the concept.

(And I'm not a 1st/2nd gen fan either - that leaves you guessed it - 3rd gen.)

I think the concept tailors to the 3rd gen look more then some let on.

Agreed, but is it because 3rds share some similarities with 1sts or because they did it intentionally? They won't say of course, because everything has to be 1st Gen, 1st Gen.
