Hey everybody i just signed up to these forums today and thought id introduce myself , Im looking to get myself into a Z28 sometime soon but dont really know much about them . The truth of the matter is at the moment im a honda driver :o , but a few weeks ago a high school friend that enlisted in the navy was on leave and came up from virginia in his 97 SS . And needless to say i fell in love with the car , so now im hooked and have been trying to sell my honda ever since . Im hoping since im new to these cars you guys could fill me in on some quick info on what to look for when buying a camaro . And really just any other basic info you think would be helpful . Thanks a lot in advance .

93-97 z28s have the LT1 engine, and 98-02s have the LS1 engines..the LS1 has more hp noticeable on the top end. I have the LT1, but with only 12k miles on it, i cound NOT RESIST purchasing it.;)

BTW..where abouts upstate? I live 20 min north of albany.

I live in saratoga so im probably pretty close to you , I knew the differences in the motors . The Lt1 is also a pushrod motor and is the LS1 over head cam right ? Im not going to be abel to afford a 98 so unfortunatly i think an LS1 will be out of the question . But i think i could mange to get my hands on an LT1 , i really will only end up having somewhere around 5000-6000 .

You just have to be careful when you find a camaro/trans am/firehawk..take it to a mechanic to look at it. Ya never know what its been through.:(

Yea thats the one nice part about having winter up here , im not gonna be rushed to find one . I can take my time and find one in good shape seeing as i wouldnt really even be driving it until probably april or may . So im not gonna settle for just anything , and im willing to drive pretty far so i think if im smart about it ill be able to find something that as well taken care of .

Try starting with looking through a Want Ad Digest, all Stewarts' shops carry them, or even go online.

having owned both ( 97ss and 01ss) i would strongly consider getting a LS1 type f-body.
not just for horse power, but in my opinion the lt1s are out of date and with what i went thru, its less of a hassle.

one example OPTI SPARK
they are crap. do a search on the lt1 forum about it, and then make a post in the ls1 forum to see what people prefer. the ls1 is a much better engine in my opinion. Driving both for several years, both at stock and modded the ls1 will impress you.

you might end up spending a few more bucks, but you get what you pay for. im not saying the lt1 is a bad engine, you might prefer the looks of the lt1 f-bodys, but for many other reasons, its a better buy

I like the looks of both , so looks isnt the issue . Its money thats the only issue , i hate owing people money more than anything . So i dont really want to take out a loan , but i am really considering it . Especially after seeing some of those ram air edition 98-02 pontiacs , so agressive looking . Id almost kill somebody to have a black one with some nice polished rims .

Just FYI..saw one in the want ad digest with 22k miles on it.:D Problem is, they wanted $18k for it:cry:

Hello Neighbors from Upstate NY. I live a few minutes north of Saratoga. Good luck in your search for a Camaro. I'm just aching to drive mine. F'n snow. I'll let you know if I see one at a reasonable price.
