KrisH 01-09-2006, 05:38 PM I definitely dig the Camaro concept a lot and am glad to see GM back in the game. It's a great day indeed. There are things I'd change about it, as with any car, but overall, it's a sinister car with a lot of promise. Kudos to the GM designers that worked on it and to the people responsible for making the concept a reality.
Here's a chop of what I think would look pretty sweet for an RS/SS option. The hideaway headlight option is becoming so insanely popular on 69 Camaros that even the standard front end guys are going out and swapping their setups for the RS look. I think GM could pull off this look pretty easily given headlight technology and not have to worry about functioning headlight doors.
Anyway, I'm sure all this stuff's been said so I'll shut up and post my quick little photochop that I did during lunch today.

Yes it does, but going beyond that I'm even more impressed with what Kris has done to the grill. WAY more attractive and easy on the eyes.
Even if there were no hideaway headlights, I'd like to see GM adopt something similar to this instead of the grill treatment that the concept is wearing. Hell, I want to know why they still haven't hired Mr Horton and made his ass move to Michigan.
:D :D :D
Ryan's LT1 01-09-2006, 05:51 PM Simply Breathtaking... God damn.. I'm buying one of these regardless of my financial situation when the time comes.

KrisH 01-09-2006, 05:57 PM Strange...imageshack has been kinda screwy, can someone host it for me?
Kris
EDIT: Pic is showing up again, if it goes down, I'll host it elsewhere...
HOTCIVIC 01-09-2006, 06:05 PM I love it. Very nice.
I re-hosted it here just in case imageshack goes down again:

KrisH 01-09-2006, 06:08 PM Thanks for rehosting it man.
I forgot to add that I didn't chop any of the body components. Those headlight pieces take up the same amount of space as the glass units on the car right now. It's totally doable!
I did ditch the ugly little scoop though...sorry, just can't like it.
Kris
Purple 92 SS 01-09-2006, 06:10 PM Good god kris, Just when you dont think it could get any better you go out and do this!!! i like that front end even more!! Great Chop!

GreenZLT1 01-09-2006, 06:11 PM whoa... I like!!!!!!!
theroad64 01-09-2006, 06:13 PM Outstanding. That little change cleans up the front end a lot. Yeah, good call on the scoop too.
number77 01-09-2006, 06:16 PM Chris, please make the hockey stripes dark red, or dark blue. Then at the bottom of the front end of the hockey stripe write "500hp" and in the grill put the "Z/28" logo. :D
maybe this hood

TBI_InYourEye 01-09-2006, 06:25 PM That's good stuff, I don't really care for the scoop on the concept as it sits now, and that grille also looks much cleaner.
number77 01-09-2006, 06:31 PM would the hood i posted look good on there chris? or does it not go with the lines enough?
IREngineer 01-09-2006, 06:58 PM Great work Kris! I'm impressed as always!
graham 01-09-2006, 07:04 PM Somebody be a man and chop a 4" hood on that thing... :)
vonmoldy 01-09-2006, 07:08 PM I like your version better. Getting rid of the scoop and adding the hideaway headlights give it a simpler more evil appearance.
greg_nate 01-09-2006, 07:11 PM Really nice. Incredibly nice, in fact. There is so much that can be done with this car.
This looks fantastic, and I hope GM takes ideas like this to the board when production time comes.
SNEAKY NEIL 01-09-2006, 07:12 PM I prefer the other RS grill chop.
1badLS1M6 01-09-2006, 07:12 PM I love those hideaway headlights! I think they really improve the front of the car.
Bombhunter 01-09-2006, 08:10 PM No has put an SS style hood on it yet? Wonder how that would look.
Great work, can someone do that in some other colors with stripes.
jdpickard 01-09-2006, 08:19 PM damm that looks sweet good job
Hawk312 01-09-2006, 08:23 PM Great work, can someone do that in some other colors with stripes.
I`ll second that! I wish I could photochop!
I would love to see one in black with white stripes, or red with black stripes! Or maybe Fathom Green with white stripes. :) :)
Great work on the SS!
Aaron91RS 01-09-2006, 08:27 PM DAMN thats 100x better.
How a million dollar GM design team can spend years developing a concept with the grill it had and no one along the way said hmm maybe we can do better. Yet a single guy with some pic editing programs can make one so much better a few hours later.
KrisH 01-09-2006, 08:32 PM I`ll second that! I wish I could photochop!

Great work on the SS!
I might try some chops tonight. Photoshop's not really my thing. I'm plenty good at it, but I prefer my 3D modeling software. You can all bet your a$$es that there's a 3D model of this car in the works on my computer though. I want to have some fun with this design!

UHP-CAMARO 01-09-2006, 08:51 PM Dam! Thats Hot....I Love It!
If GM wont do something along these lines then an after market company should.

Not to sound rude, but if I'm going to "choose my color" I'd hope to see more than generic colors...
Kris
eagleknight97 01-11-2006, 04:02 AM haha, plus there have been a million other threads with better done colors...
dvader8 01-11-2006, 04:03 AM No attempt at a thread hijack. I came looking for as many new pics as possible, and this was one of the first threads I saw.
Then I noticed someone asking to see more colors, and hadn't seen anyone do that yet. So I just popped out a few different colors, just to get away from the silver we've all been seeing. :D
Besides, this would be the baby I'd buy, if they were released tomorrow!

Looks good Kris. Origionally the headlights had to be moved to the outside for RS models. which isnt an issue here. Also the idea of the 69 headlight doors was to have 3 slats so if they didnt work some light would get through them. Why not just have a 3 slat headlight cover that can be removed that look like doors? Kinda like the headlight cover GTS RS dont look good with them open anyway...
JB'z 94 01-11-2006, 05:10 AM How about a billet grille on the bottom air duct and on top covering the entire grille area and the lights?
gumbydammit 01-11-2006, 05:34 AM Guys, do you really think it's that simple? I work at the general, and have been busting A on the concept all year. Don't you think they review about ten zillion proposals? There are very good reasons it wound up looking like it did, and a lot of grilles were made... A S**tload of grilles were made. I work near the sleepelss guy who modelled it so I can vouch for the number of rejected proposals. Everyone has an opinion, and no design would go unpunished. If you do retro people who want ultra-modern get angry, if you do modern retro people will scream, and if you do something with no heritage whatsoever, you will get a big fat WTF? from a ton of people.
I hope you can see past quick judgments, and salute the general for making this car. Blacking out the grille, or adding stripes are gravy. The meat and potatoes are there! It begs for you to buy one and black out the grille or add stripes. That's the point. But PLEASE don't slam the effort that went into this concept.
And Kris please go to Art Center or CCS and get your degree. You should be in the business, but you need to piece of paper from one of those colleges. We need people with your passion and dedication to doing the work.
Peace out,
Gumby

I've considered going to Art Center, but just can't get motivated to learn someone else's style. Seems to me that most people that leave major art schools all tend to draw the same way. Saw a lot of it when Okuyama was teaching in Pasadena. Nothing wrong with that, but the reason I think that my work manages to get good feedback and generate buzz is because I am self-taught and stay true to myself and my passion, not anyone else's.
This isn't a veiled slap in the face to formal education, just some insight into what I think about proper schooling. I interviewed at GM and aside from ultimately not being very interested in the job (bog move from CA, cold weather, etc.,) I don't think I was right for the job. I am GREAT with a computer, but my sketching skills lack these days. I also tend to prefer customizing to designing.
Anyway, I'm sleepy (I work 9-6 designing toy cars...then 7ish-3ish designing real ones!) but that's my 2 cents for now. Thanks for the kind words and the vote of confidence. Great work on the Camaro. It had a lot of expectations to live up to. At this point, it is what it is and screw the naysayers. It's a sweet car and I'll be in line to get one!

I'll agree to that to an extent dude. If you already know what you're doing going into it, unless you want to change you really won't. I went into my school with more than enough knowledge in my field (programming). It was good learning other ways to do what I did, but I still had my own style of doing everything. When I came out of it, (sorry to sound arrogant) I hadn't learned too much but at least I had the paper saying I could do it.
Going to school isn't going to hurt your art style at all. Whatever you pick up from school that you like, you'll take with you. Whatever you don't like, you'll just throw to the side and get done just to get it done.
You clearly have the talent. Unfortunately though that's not enough at many places.
Horde 01-11-2006, 09:41 AM Well done, looks great

That's good advice, and not just for me either. It applies anywhere (obviously because you went to school for engineering) and offers a good perspective.
I have to admit, another fear/concern I have about going back to school is that it will consume me. I live for what I do and I have built up a decent reputation at a young age and I guess I'm afraid of setting that aside to go to school for something that *might* help me. Right now I'm a full-time employee at Jada Toys and I get to design some fun stuff using my own technique and am getting paid well for it. I don't want to seem "content" but it does make dropping everything and going to Art Center a more difficult decision.

Well that part of your life I didn't know about (I suppose I should work on my stalker skills). If you're happy where you are and are making enough money to keep you happy, why not just try it part time? Take like 1-2 classes at a time. That way you can try it out and if you don't like it, drop it without much of a financial loss. If you like it, keep going at it and in time get your degree. A lot of classes you might even be able to test out of so you don't waste your time learning the basics. That'd save you money and time.
Meccadeth 01-11-2006, 02:34 PM One thing is certain, black is pure sex on this car.
magius231 01-11-2006, 04:30 PM I dunno that orange one kinda gave me wood :D
they build this in Sunset Orange Metallic and I'll sell body parts for it :metal:
TurboSteve 01-17-2006, 11:24 PM Can someone photoshop the Smokey Yunick Camaro paint scheme and Torque Thrust wheels onto the new Camaro? I'm also surprised that i haven't seen the Z28 stripes yet, or maybe i just haven't looked hard enough.
I've always had a thing for the SY Camaro, but it would also be cool to see a Sunoco/Penske paint scheme done too.

There it is. That's the one I'm going to own in a few years....
SCNGENNFTHGEN 01-18-2006, 04:27 PM It still looks good. I have to disagree on the little scoop though, IMO it looks just right on the car. Oh and where are all the haters of the chrome grille BOD? I am having a hard time picking at the concept, I pretty much like it as is, though this version looks good too. Nice work Kris! An RS/SS option would be a great way to add another version to the option list for different looks. Holy smokes the car looks phenominal in black, I will probably want black too.
