N20Dave 01-04-2006, 09:55 PM Almost there...decided the factory tank and center console had to go. Like I needed another thing to fabricate (i.e. spend more time and money on) Here's the finished NX install as well..
Console. It's held on with a frame work fitted to the contour of the tunnel then bent at an upward angle with dzus fasteners installed. The upper piece will also be removable via dzus.

Here's the cell being fitted. Don't ask on this one. I'll post next week when we get it all figured out. I need to raise the whole rear deck 2 inches and fab up a sealed removable hatch assembly as well as relocate the fuel fill on the cell.

jerminator96 01-06-2006, 01:50 PM Hey dave, how much did you spend on fitting those heads and that intake to your LT1. If you don't mind me asking, you can PM me if you'd like. Thanks

N20Dave 01-07-2006, 01:03 AM Yes we are for now mostly because the car see road course duty with my dad driving and we thought it would be a good thing to have in case of a slick track condition. I have to make a wiring harness for it thought as we ditched the factory harness.

taner 01-12-2006, 10:16 PM looks killer Dave! so are you gonna let me in on how you mounted your vacuum pump to the balancer? is there room for a crank trigger behind that. hmmm have to call you this weekend. just need to find your ph. # again, lol!

Seriously, I figure that'll be my pickup line. "Hey baby, wanna hold my nitrous bottle?"
Elysian 01-26-2006, 03:08 PM Now if only GM made them like that from the factory. That thing is kickass. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of #'s did you get out of the heads?
N20Dave 01-26-2006, 08:08 PM Thanks.
The heads were actually a little weak by 2.2 standards. The small bore doesn't help either. They "only" flowed 380/260 I/E. There are guys here that have them that have gotten as much as 440+ intake...
Joe Brodman 01-28-2006, 12:57 PM I can just bungee cord them to the two 15lb nitrous bottles that go on that deck.;)

N20Dave 05-25-2006, 10:08 PM Well it's not quite done but it does run and move under it's own power now. It's at the body shop getting the airbox made in the hood and a few other things. It should be back in a week or two. I'm hoping to have it on track in about a month.

N20Dave 05-30-2006, 06:14 PM Maple Grove of course. I'll let you know.
Thanks Jordon. I drove it 2 miles today at the body shop. That's quite a feat considering there are no plates on it and no windshield in it at the moment. I got on it pretty good on a twisty stretch. It's got LOTS of grip. I was short shifting it at about 5000 (it makes peak power of 740 @ 7400. at 5000 it's making about 500 even) and it accelerates so hard out of corners that it pushes the 315 fronts then gradually rotates. Those 335 Kumo's out back have an amazing amount of grip. Of course I was being ginger (Officer, let me explain how I ended up in this field in this car that has no windows or interior or plates or lights...) I did let it rip on a straight, still short shifting and it just lights em' up hard...in every gear. It'll definately go mid 10's on the motor, maybe better. We can't wait. Just a little longer...
FroSSty 05-30-2006, 10:00 PM That looks awesome! Definately keep us updated...
jerminator96 05-31-2006, 10:59 PM Hey Dave,

N20Dave 11-03-2006, 11:14 AM No time slips yet. We started a new business and that has taken some time away but we are working on it. I had to engineer a belt driven water pump setup because the factory housing can't flow enough to keep it cool on a road course. The new system is sick. -16 lines in and out of the block, billet bracket, cog belt, etc... In addition we added an Earls 42 row oil cooler that I am in the process of mounting. We are on pace for the first good weather of Spring though so it's coming. In the mean time, Taner bombed the record even lower so I guess I'll have to put the big pills in it and hope the block doesn't decide to do the two direction tango. We'll see. Thanks for keeping the interest alive guys.
Sorry I never answered the fuel cell question. It's 22 gallons.
taner 11-03-2006, 11:41 PM interest is always there...check your voice mail ;)
buzz12586 11-07-2006, 06:11 PM Sorry for asking a stupid question but what does SB2.2 LT1 mean. I assume you are using small block heads on an LT1 or something????
jerminator96 11-07-2006, 06:18 PM The SB2.2 heads are a GM performance item commonly used on the NASCAR Nextel Cup cars. They can be ported to flow well over 400cfm and allow you to make over 2hp per cubic inch of displacement.
Several small groups are said to worship these heads as a personal god, making sacrifices and ritualistically ingesting high octane fuels.

Sounds incriminating :D
You guys make it sound like the heads are hard to get a hold of and they aren't at all. Now making them work on an LT1....thats all N20Dave :D
Roadie 11-08-2006, 02:48 PM how much of a gain will you get out of them being reversed cooled? I wouldn't think near as much as you could by upping the displacement in an aftermarket SBC block... But then you'd have to go carb or aftermarket fuel injection.
This is one of our dirt track 430 cube sb2.2 engines... Too bad the pan, oil tank, oil pump, lines, distributor, and carb won't fit under the hood of my ride.

That's only the beginning of the work. There is so much support work involved in this combination. I've done a fair amount of work on that car and everything is tweaked. You would'nt believe what had to be done to make the headers and exhaust fit.

Bro...did you forget what combo I have been messing with for the last 3+ years? There isn't anything I don't believe when it comes to non-standard combos and LT1's :D
I haven't even gotten to the exhaust part yet which makes me think this car will see more track time than anything else until I can come up with something more than open headers.

Bobby,
I'm well aware of what you and a few others are messing with. My comments are directed for the folks that might think the work ends w/ getting the heads converted to reverse cooled.
Oh, I'll give you a hint w/ the exhaust...there's cutting, welding and patching involved;) :p

Hey Steve, hope I didn't come across the wrong way. Man...cutting, welding and patching...You for hire? :D
MEAN LT1 11-08-2006, 05:31 PM The heads are badazz, plain and simple. if they didnt cost so much, and then have them converted and then get an intake to work.....etc. I wil do this setup one day, its just meant to be. :)
N20Dave 11-09-2006, 10:40 AM Trust me, the cost of the heads was nothing compared with everything else required to make them work. In fact, used, they were no more than a set of say, AFR 215's.
N20Dave 11-09-2006, 10:42 AM Roadie, You are correct, it would have made more power by going with a large bore aftermarket block to really take advantage of the heads but we wanted to stay with, and prove something, with the LT1 platform. Those heads will eventualy find their way onto a 4.125" bore bowtie block.
Believe me, your pan, intake, etc... will fit into the car, you just have to get real creative :)

N20Dave 11-13-2006, 08:54 AM 69vette, ours flowed those numbers on a 4.125" fixture. When tested with a 4.030 fixture they flowed 360/258. What fixture size did you use?
69vette 11-13-2006, 01:14 PM 4.125". They haven't been sent out to be ported any more yet though. There just like they were when they came off a nascar engine. Just their cnc porting. They will be sent out later on to be hand ported, but I wanted to see what they would do as is for now.
