Air Cleaner Problem Clearence problem ...

I've got a small issue. I've got a high rise intake on my 350 in my '83 with a 4bbl. Most air cleaners I try just do not fit inbetween the hood and the carb because of 1) the high rise and 2) the "fake" scoops in the hood. Short of getting a new hood (I'm planning on getting a new hood, I just really don't have the cash to get one now) does anyone know of a model air filter to use? Maybe something LOW PROFILE? The guy at the parts store is stumped, he ordered something for me to be here tomorrow just to see if it works, if it does, great, if not, he thinks I needs to just put a new hood. Either option will work, but I'd rather just get an air cleaner to fit for now. Got any ideas? Thanks.

I bought a 2 3/8" high K&N assembly with the xtreme-flow lid, and I still need to cut some of the support out of my stock '87 hood to clear it. I only have a performer intake and q-jet. I wouldn't have a prayer of fitting the old Holley single plane street dominator that I have under a stock hood with an air cleaner....
