Now to start off, I know jack **** about sound systems, stereos, amps, speakers , subs and boxes etc... All I want is a little more kick and better sound in my car. All I have now is a $150 Panasonic CD player going through stock speakers. Can I just upgrade the speakers or something? I want this too cost below $200. What are my options?

Save your money. 200 bucks wont get you much at all. ONE set of decent componets will cost more than 200 bucks. I would plan for around 300 to 500 for speakers. Then 500 for a sub and a amp with eveything needed to install plus a box. Also any good set of speakers generally needs to be run off an amp instead of the HU. anywhere from 100 to 250 for than depenind on what you choose.

if you're not an audiophile, a set of new coax's front/rear will probably be fine for ya.
If you want a little better sound, since you already replaced the head unit, I'd get a 50x4 amp, and some decent components for the front, coax's for the back, and you will be good to go.
