super quietmuffler???

hey i have heard that corsa(or maybe someone else) makes a muffler that is very quiet at idle and at low rpm's, but once it you go WOT or it gets past a certain RPM number like 3000 or so that the muffler open's up to allow much more flow through and turns into a really loud exhaust again. Does this muffler really exist?

Yeah that description is supposed to be true of corsa. Slp Dual-Dual which looks pretty cool is also quiet but when you get on it, it sounds pretty good and loud.

Yea, i have slp dual-duals with a cutout to have the best of both worlds.

ya i thought it was corsa. the car im getting is going to have long tube headers, high flow cats and it was heads and a cam, and it was slp loud mouth cat back on it and its really really loud. Im gonna keep it really loud for a bit, but after a while i know my neighbors are going to start complaining so i just want a muffler that will keep things on the low down until i deciede to step on it.

With LT's and no/high flow cats the corsa is going to be loud.

slp dual-dual is one the quieter ones then. If you can get one with a "cone of silence" it will be even quieter. Some factory ss's came with the silenced dual duals.
I believe it is called the slp proflow.

my friend has a borla cat back and a dynomax 12 inch bullet in front and it gets rid of the borla raspy crackle when you let off the throttle and it also quites it down a lot

ok so im probably going to get the slp dual-dual's now, but i than once i get those i want to also have the electronic exhaust cut-out, where could i find this electronic cut-ouit and is it operated from inside the car or do i have to manually change it everytime???

Corsa doesn't "open up" to allow more flow. It uses sound cancellation technology, and it cancels out a lot of the frequencies generated at idle. Here's a cutaway diagram of a Corsa muffler:

Note how the air moves straight through. No baffles, no bends. The exhaust sound isn't muffled, it's accoustically cancelled.

I have a Corsa catback, but the rest of my exhaust is stock. It has an aggressive-sounding but inoffensive idle, and has a wonderful throaty sound as the revs climb.

In 6th gear, wind noise is louder than the exhaust until I'm going 90+ (2000+ rpm). Even at that point, it doesn't drone.

Both types are available. An electronic one should cost less than $150.

I just got rid of my flowmaster American thunder muffler (80 series i think) for a aerochamber. What a difference, I can hardly hear it. I was getting sick of the noise all the time, talking over the exhaust. I gain some power too. I knew there would be some small gain because of the restrictive flowmaster. But i can feel the difference, even with the tires spinning in the winter here in Il. I would tell anyone to buy one. I am very happy. good luck

My H/C and bolt-on 00TA has a Corsa with LTs and no cats and is very quiet at idle - much quieter than the Z28 is. Even highway cruising is very subdued, and is barely noticable. However, the sound gets much much louder under load, and is just as loud as my open cutout at full throttle. As close as you'll ever get to a best of both worlds situation - but it will cost you :)
