Reset the bead!! Dangerous!!!

So my friend and I were out about on a curvy country road. And I went around a curve and the passenger front tire rolled right off the bead. I was sighing and carrying on how I have to get the tire fixed and yada yada yada. While I was taking out the jack and spare. I find a can of starting fluid. I remember reading and seeing this little trick work, I gave it a shot. And I'll be damned if it didn't work like a charm. It put the tire right back on the bead no problem. I drove to the closest gas station and filled it with the correct amount of air. Drove home, no problem. Prolly about 7 miles home.

I know this is a VERY VERY dangerous thing to attempt. But it actually worked quite well!

did your rim get messed up when it happened? ive reset the bead on a couple of tires- i just filled them up with air and they popped right on.

For reference, what size tire are you running, on what size wheel?

Stocker
235/35/16"

The lip of the wheel isn't a pretty sight.

i thought that the stock wheels called for 245 or 255? if your tire is too narrow, it will be coming off again

they have been using this method for years...in my opinion it can be sometimes less dangerous doing it this way because you can stand back and light the fluid from a distrance

235/55-16 is a stock tire size. Base V8's came with 235/55-16 all-season tires. If you got the Z-rated tire option, you got 245/50-16's. A 255 was never standard. Most manufacturers recommend a wneel width of 6.5-8.5" for the 235/55-16.

it safer alot of times even when mounting new tires. some of the larger 20" and above wheels are hard to seat the bead. i have put 100-150 psi in some and when the bead does set it sounds like a shotgun. this is also true for verry low profile tires too. if i have a tire that wont seat i always use the starting fluid/eather trick. it works great on those pesky lawn mower tires and atv tires too.
