just wondering what size speakers other 2nd gen owners have installed in the stock locations.

I've owned two 2nd gens over the years. The best speaker setup I ever had was a set of Epicure plate speakers with a 6-1/2" woofer and 1" inverted dome tweeters in the package tray and some smaller Epicure plate speakers in the doors that had a 4-1/2" mids and 1" inverted dome tweeters. This was back in the 70's before subwoofers were an everyday thing in car stereo. I had a pair of 50wx2 Kenwood amps powering it all back then. This was all in a '76 Rally Sport Camaro Type LT I had at the time. What I wouldn't give to have that car back again.

did the 6.5's fit with no mods in the rear? my 73 doesn't have door speakers, just rear package tray and front dash speaker. do you know what fits in the front dash location?

The Epicure plate speakers were drop in replacements. The door speakers required cutting some steel to get them to fit. It was a long time ago so I don't remember a lot of the details. I just remember that it was a real PITA at the time. I think the only dash speaker was a single 6x9 hole in the center of the dash behind the defroster vent.
