I know quite a bit about installing NORMAL car cd players, but my 95 camaro has the factory delco/bose system and it has me stumped! I have a new panasonic cd player and a 12" kicker L7 waiting to be put in and i cannot find anyone around(without paying someone a lot to do it for me) who knows how to make this cd player work with the factory bose speakers(i tried putting it in once and got power but no sound...which is kinda the whole point!). Someone said i need an adaptor of some sort??? Im going to try asking the circuit city guys, but let me know if you have any suggestions please!!!!!! Thanks for any advise!!!! ~Katie

Conect the remote turn on wire from your deck to the antenna/amp wire on the harness and you should be golden... no special adapter is necessary i just did this today

yes, an adapter is necessary for any aftermarket HU to work with either the Bose or Monsoon systems.

My recommendation would be to just replace the speakers with aftermarket, and then you won't have to deal with the bose speakers; they're more pain than they are worth.

I just replaced my whole system but as far as i know as long as you use the right GM harness and wire it right it should work fine. Check your wiring. That being said i agree about replacing the whole system.

Actually you are wrong. There were 3 different stereo options, Monsoon, Bose, and "standard". The "standard" ones are a direct plug-n-play with normal speakers.

Both the Monsoon and Bose systems have external amplifiers and odd speaker impedances which require the adapters. Because you gutted and replaced everything you did not run into this issue or you just had one of the standard stereos.

I believe PAC is the company that makes the adapter that you need for the bose setup; but I'm not sure of the price.

As for re-doing the entire stereo, it's not too bad. Figure the cost of whatever speakers you buy, plus $50 or so for speaker wire. I always suggest running new wires, especially with a Bose or Monsoon system due to the amplifiers in the stock system. It's not that hard, and it does make a difference in performance.

Actually you are wrong there were only two options in 95. The normal system and the Bose system. Now Delco is the company that makes the radios for camaros. Monsoon is just a division of Delco. And even though its a Bose system delco made it in our camaros.

that is fine... the monsoon was not available... but none the less;

The Bose speakers all have indivual amplifiers built right into the speakers as well as being odd impedances in compared to typical 4 ohm stereo speakers.

Thus the reason for it not working.

It doesn't matter if Delco built the stereo or if the Monsoon wasn't an option, that has nothing to do with why it isn't working. It has to do with the fact of what I listed prior and in this post.

Ok not trying to start liek a little fight or anything here but why is it that on both monsoon and bose cars I have just used the standard gm wiring harness and have had absolutely no problems other then that the volume knob is a little sensitive lol

It WILL work. The radio will play and you will get sound just installing an aftermarket cd player using the standard '88-up GM harness. Is it recomended to do it this way? No. Like it was stated before some of the bose speakers are less than 4 ohm which is not good for a stereo that is designed to run with a 4 ohm load. As also stated before the volume will be very sensitive because the signal is being amplified twice with an aftermarket deck and the stock bose speakers. Like I said it will work and a lot of people do it, but I would recommend replacing all the speakers if you are going to put and aftermarket deck in the car.

Ok cool that I was aware of I was starting to wonder why it had worked in the past

Hey thanks for all the tips guys! I had my boyfriend's friend look at it, and turns out i had everything hooked up right myself (and yes all i did was use the wiring harness PentaVolvo!)but the guy that had the car before me screwed a lot of wires up with a cd changer he had in it. Finally we found the problem with some crossed wires. (It was really weird becase we could touch the dash light wire and the power antana wire and get the sound to work and turn off the sound by dimming my dash lights!)

if you have a trans am then the monsoon system is 4ohms...

I like this page... Everything you need to know about monsoon (http://www.houston-f-body.org/tech/monsoon/)

That was probably because you used the antena wire instead of the remote wire to power up the system. It only worked in the tuner function I'd be willing to bet.

Actually only the c.d. player worked and not the tuner. Does anyone know what wire may be crossed??

I know if you get the brown antenna wire mixed up with the black ground wire, that you will have problems with the stereo, usually associated with the headlights/dimmer switch...

re-check this to make sure.
