Re: Better Challenger pictures

Nice car but way too Retro...looks too much like it has come of the set Dukes of Hazzard to me....and a bit on the boxy side.

Re: Better Challenger pictures

Not bad, but compared to those camaro pics, this car looks really boring.

I think it looks great!

Interesting how polarizing it is, on the Autoweek board too.

Re: Better Challenger pictures

Plain Weakness! That is the biggest rip-off job I have ever seen!

Was Dodge trying to save a few buck by not using any designers?

Re: Better Challenger pictures

I can see how some people might have an issue with it's retro-ness. But considering the Challenger's brief past....how do you make a 21st century version that links to that past and doesn't look retro?

I'm not sure how I feel about the interior, but I like the rest.

I agree with this.....

I've said before that GTO was a perfect situation for retro styling, because of this very situation, but the circumstances with Monaro didn't allow for that at the time....

Retro styling on a reborn GTO would have made much more sense than retro styling on a next generation Camaro (IMHO, of course)

By incorporating past elements in spirit into the modern product. What I mean is don't copy it detail for detail. Tail lamps are a different proportion, a body crease is mimicked, hood bulges, the number of head lights/tail lights.

What it looks like happened at DCX is Marketing gave a designer or engineer a pic of a '71 Challenger and a sheet of tracing paper, and said, "Copy this, add a few modern touches, but don't work too hard on it because at the moment the buying public will trip over whatever nostalgic crap we can pawn on them."
