Don't race E55 AMGs from an 80MPH roll...
Why?
493HP/516TQ Supercharged 5.5L V8 in a car designed to cruise 150 on the Autobahn.
To tell youthe truth, it could have been worse. At 80with the stock 3.42 rear and a T56, starting in 3rd is going to force you to shift quicker than you want and 4th is not quite in my best powerband yet. Starting at 65-70 in 3rd would have been better for me. Add in just a tad of high RPM miss that's totally driving me nuts, and you get the Merc pulling away from me pretty convincingly.
It wasn't a slaughter, but there's no doubt about which car was pulling harder past 80. I had no idea it was the ~500HP AMG till I saw the back end, since all I knew was that a silver Merc sedan was crowding my tail a little. I figured I would teach him a lesson about "old Camaros", considering my mods, and was pretty shocked when he stayed on my tail then gradually pulled around me, at least until I saw the badge on his trunk.
I gotta give props to the Germans. You hand them $115,000 and they can make you a fast 4,000+ LB car. From a dig, it would probably be a different story, at least up until 70 or so. On the road, I would need some juice to put the whoopin' on him.

115K? More like 80K... Sure you might be able to option it up to 115K. German cars are like that. Individual option lists as long as American pick-up trucks, but 10x as much, hehe.

My bad on the model #. I just went back and looked at the back of the cars on Mercedes website to double check. It was an S55, not an E55. I had looked before and I had the price right, but the model # wrong in my thread header.
The one that took me definitely had the polished dual oval tips on each side. S55 at $115,000 MSRP without options. A nice , fast car. Probably similar performance between the two, though.

S55 AMG is a quick car for being HUGH, the E55 AMG is a ***** ****er you should see them from a dig..... They trap like a Viper and run low 12s with street tires. Put one on a DR and you will see 11s. So don't just watch out for Benzos from a roll most can get outta the hole very nicely.

Don't race them from a dead stop, either. I was at a light here in Lake Worth a few months back, and some really goofy lookin' little kid, complete with pimples and a backwards ballcap pulled up next to me in a silver E55.
He was revving at me, so I rolled down the window and asked him if his daddy knew how his car was getting treated. Kid did not respond favorably. I turned off the TCS and the AC. When the light changed I launched as hard as I could on the street we were on. I did OK... until I had to do the 1-2 shift. Friggin' Merc never stopped pulling. That's when I got to see the AMG logo.
Oh, well. **** happens. Nice cars.
