Engine in my Dodge ponycar? Now I need a 6.2 with 450+ in my Chevy ponycar.

 

Z06, lol no way. GT500 I would say is the mark they are looking for. The Challenger would need about 570-580 hp roughly to put up similar numbers to th z06, or a rear end so steep it would make the street hemi look miserly in fuel consumption.

 

Sounds great! But I'm a bit confused with the 392 HP number off this 6.4L mill. Where's the 505 HP number in the article coming from? Seems strange for the article to be quoting 392 HP from 6.4L when the 6.1 L version of the Hemi is kickin' out 425 HP!!
It's a very interesting HP number though, as MOPAR used to put a 392 CID Hemi in the old Imperials, Chryslers and DeSotos. If I'm not mistaken, this was the generation Hemi (after the 331) and before the 426. It was a completely different motor than the 413.
Maybe it actually is 392 CID?... as 6.4L would be 388.5 CID. (close enough!)

I know its getting a hemi for sure. But I don't know about the power rating.

What, did we forget Dodge already has a Viper in the sports car competitor area or something?

Seems every time someone mentions high horsepower, we get collective amneisia when it comes to car classes and different markets.

 

The 392 Hemi from the late 50s was the buildout of the original Hemi that started with 331 CI in 1951. It grew to 354 CI in 1955 and finally 392 CI in 1957. It was discontinued after 1958 for all lines but Imperial. The 413 wedge engine was featured in the 1959 Chrysler and the 1960 Imperial.

 

Doesn't seem like Dodge plays games, does it? Looks like both the Mustang GT500 and the Challenger SRT8 are going to mean business. The new Camaro is going to definelty need something like an LS7 to be able to compete with these guys.

 

I wonder what car line , really ....the supercharged LS2 is gonna go in

 

Competition improves the breed. Now GM will be forced to step up (I hope), otherwise SRT models will outsell, and outperform GM counterparts (with the exception of the ZO6). SRT4>Cobalt SS, SRT6>Solistice, SRT8>GTO, GCSRT8>TB SS, Viper GTS<ZO6.

 

I doubt they'd get 500+ bhp when GM need 7.0L to do that from their race bred donk. Not from a N/A engine anyway.

Still, exciting things continue to come from Mopar performance. Meanwhile, some of us GM fans continue to wait, and wait,...
