Clutch Reservoir Empty, problem?

A week ago I was taking the Z28 out for a short drive, when the clutch pedal stuck to the floor and I couldn't get it in or out of gear. I took it back home and checked the clutch reservoir, it was dry. I refilled it and the car shifts fine now.

Thing is I took the Z28 in to the shop 6 weeks earlier for the same reason. They changed the master cylinder which was leaking. They mentioned that they had a hard time bleeding the hydraulics. However, the car shifted fine when it left the shop.

Could this empty reservoir be empty because of air in the system, or do I have another leak?

If they had a hard time bleeding it, they may have never filled it up.

I'd double check everything for leaks, just to make sure.

Bleed it very good and make sure it stays full.

Defininately keep an eye on it

Air will always rise to the top of a fluid. If this was not the problem, the only other thing could be leakage.

Update, the level in the reservoir dropped 1/4 inch since Sunday, approximately 40 miles.

I think I got a leak.

Yeah, that would be a lot of air and not likely. A leak is more plausible. You should be able to see some wetness somewhere.

Are you sure that shop changed the system? The GM reservoir and master cylinder come as one unit and are not sold separately.

Yes the reservoir was changed . I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well, I just got a call from the shop. They pulled the transmission and the the slave cylinder is leaking. So I want them to replace the clutch while the transmission is out.:irk:

They are telling me the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel come as a unit. So all those parts will have to be replaced. I didn't know that the flywheel came with the clutch? Anyway they say it could be ready late today.

I didn't think there was that much air left in the system.:lol:

there can be alot of air in the system, I have had my clutch feel fine and the resouvoir drop 1/2 in. In the process of changint out and bleeding the clutch.

flywheel/clutch doesn't come as a unit as far as I know.



and I do believe all ls1s have seperate master/slave v6s do, and they share some of the parts.
