im looking to buy a really tough forged crank for my buildup. Im wanting to go 408ci. Im unsure which crank manufacturer to go with. Most of them seem the same. I just want a crank that i dnt have to worry about :) thnx

What im wanting to build:
408ci ls1
ET c5r heads
fm 14 cam?
some kind of nitrous piston
rods?
crank?
moser 12 bolt 3.73s
built 4l60e, got one sitting on stand :)

any suggestions or ideas? thnx

check the sponsers. tybrne always has sales on slp's 402 short block. all eagle rotating and ross pistons. nice piece and probably the cheapest easiest route.

the blocks are just new lq9 castings. any 6.0l block will work.i still think it's cheaper to just order the short block though. after machining and all the costs of individual parts you'll be ahead.i bought that for my 99 and pieced together a 383 lt1 for my 97. the 99 runs and the 97 cost more and is still waiting for machine work.

o its a 6.0l block? ls2? i want to stay ls1, or can u not go that big? i want to stay within block tolerances. im really looking to make a bullet proof motor that i can seriously spray. i want tought parts so i dnt have to worry about beating on it. ima build it right the first time. recomendations? maybe not such a big stroker kit? or just stay at stock size and replace everything with forged stuff? i dunno. as long as it dnt break i dnt really care.

For that type of spray, your gunna want a good stroker kit. The SLP stuff is not what I would reccomend. A forged 402 from HPE with Lunati internals would surfice easily. I wouldn't reccomend the ET C5-R's though. That's a big valved head for the size bore you are using. You should look into there 225-240cc 11* heads. They would suit your application much better since they are designed for that size bore. Not to mention you can run normal LSX intakes instead of a custom sheet metal or LS7. With those, th emotor should surpass 550 rwhp easily.

sweet thnx for the info, so lunati internals huh? the only reason i wanted the heads was cuz there flow numbers are awesome.

also wuts HPE? i dnt see em in vendor index

whats wrong with slp? are you going on what you heard or do you have experience? i've ran plenty of gen1 blocks with eagle internals all of which put down between 700-800hp. if balanced and assembled properly they're good to 1000hp easy.at the level he's looking for lunati is over priced and over kill.i also happen to be a machinist. so please explain your recomendations.

There is no telling what shmo they have in there throwing these mass produced engines together. When it comes to a set-up like this, I personally would want someone with a great deal of mechanical expierience, who knows how to use the tools he has, to put it together. Your assuming that I am saying that SLP and Eagle are bad parts, but I never once said anything like that. You also don't know what his goals for the car are. He said he wanted lots of spray. How much HP does that intail? When it comes to 700 rwhp +, I'm going to upgrade to a crank with a comfort zone. I'd rather build it once than have to wonder about it every time it takes a big hit from the spray. You can reccomend which ever parts you want. I'm just giving my opinion. Also, FWIW, I know alot of people who call themselves machinist that couldn't machine there way out of a paper bag, so flaunting that you a machinist dosen't really flatter me all that much, but thanks for trying.:)

i'm not triing to flatter you. my point is everyone seems to know whats best, but yet they've never had anything.your sig shows a car in stock form.i was only wondering if you had any real knowledge of what was being discussed.i currently own two 4th gens i've built and race. in the past 24 years i've raced just about every chevy there is.i'm speaking from real world experience.as far as nitrous goes how much can you spray? at a 200hp level a 10lbs bottle only lasts maybe 4 passes. not hardly worth the cost. most bracket tracks the fastest bracket is around 11.75 most na strokers will do that w/out nitrous.
your always entitled to your opion, but when advising others think of what your saying.do you really know?
you never did answer my question. what knowledge backs up your claims? i'm sorry if i sound like an a$$, but i'm really tired of people talking smack about what they don't know.

Ever since I could afford my first one, I've done nothing but do my own research and do my own work. I had one of the first stock bottom end LT-1's in the 11's years ago, but it seems like that's a cake walk now days. My sig shows a stock car because I hardly frequent this site. I've never really bothered to change it. The car in my sig has had a 383/200 shot combo, a 427 N/A combo and I'm currently building a 454 LS2 that will elapse 600 rwhp easily. When people build a motor for the spray, they usaully spray at least 200, if not 3-400. If there still using a 10lb bottle, that's their own deal. If the cars in your area only run 11.75's,espeacially strokers, then you need to make a trip to the south. Guys down here run low 10's at 120+ mph with cam only cars, stock bottom end. I hope you don't think that everyone on this site is just some punk kid who spits out biast statements to try and make people think he's smart. I'm personally 30 yrs old and have better things to do that ramble on to someone about something I have no clue about. For me, things are simple. If I know, I tell, if I don't, I keep scrolling.

HPE built my engine with an Eable Crank. They did a good job.

HPE is building mine also. Once again, I never said anything bad about the eagle cranks. I was gunna use one in my build, but they didn't come with enough stroke. 700+ rwhp w/ forced induction though, I prefer something stronger.

sounds like you know what your doing.though i don't think everyone here is going as crazy as you are. my apoliges (i can't spell) but time and time again i do hear people without a clue pipen up.good luck with your build. we do go faster than that up here. my point was there's no need to in brackets because 11.75 is the fastest bracket. so you just sit there and wait 3 seconds for a light.

I'm actually building one as we speak. Lunati 383 w/ Futral/Meaux Stage 3 LT-4 heads/intake and a direct port NX kit. I don't guess I know who Rodney is. I usaully know most of you guys down there by nicknames anyway. Come join us in the LA section of LS2.com sometime.

Rodney is a local guy who holds the cam-only LS1 record in the nation. Somewhere around 10.2x @ 131 with a 6-speed in a Trans-Am using the T-rex cam on stock injectors, fuel pump, throttle body, rockers, etc.. Pretty mean car.

Shouldn't that be 130+?? Even very light f-bodies don't run low tens at 120.
And that would be one guy, not guys? right?

I know that you got a little fired up but let's keep the male member size comparisons in check.

thanks

thanksI was just making a point man, not trying to be politically correct. There's more than just one cam only car in the 10's. Maybe not low 10's, but tens none the less.:)
