A little off base, but is the manifold a stock manifold or an aftermarket one? Does it go on a 400 or 403? Just wondering.

It Is For A 403.....its To Hard To Find An Intake That You Can Use And Still Keep The Shaker Functional......trying To Keep It Stock Looking I Guess,,,,, Would Rather Have An Aftermarket Inatake,,, Just Cant Find One To Work,,,they Are All To Tall

Yeah it's not too hard tho. Edelbrock makes the Preformer that will fit, not the 7111, but it's not that much better than stock design wise, just a lot lighter.

You have to use a Holley carb with it if you plan on running an EGR tho. No EGR and the clearance for the linkage is fine. Offenhouser makes one too that will work that is a better design. Check out www.mondellotwister.com for ideas on what to use. I wouldn't suggest buying anything from them tho. Their customer service isn't that great and they are expensive, but they do make some good engines. I used to have a 79 T/A so I know what you are going thru. Another route would be to get an Olds 455 and use that. Lots of torque to get that thing moving and a lot more options out there. You can use the same engine mounts and everything too, it'll drop right in no problems.

Original is good, make sure you do something with the bottom end of that 403 when you are ready to build it up, like a girdle or something. You can make some serious power out of those things, just gotta spin them a little higher. Also you will want to find some #5 casting heads. The 4A's will work, it just takes more work to port them since they are smog heads. They actually flow really well when ported, so if you have the extra cash it can be done. For port work check out Mid Am Performance, they do a great job and are very helpful.
