Zigroid 12-02-2005, 08:51 PM I just got my jan 2006 issue of hemmings muscle machine magazine. On page 53 it has an article title "the camaro is coming." in this article the author states that he received a picture of a clay model of what appeared to be the 5th gen camaro. he also said that they cant show the picture becuase a GM public relations guy contacted them. he says:
...remains faithful to the original camaro ponycar concept. A squarish roof, muscular haunches, a Coke-bottle kick ahead of the rear wheels formed by the shape of the rear-quarter window and rocker-panel shaping and cowl hood. The engine is in front, the drive wheels are in back. There are vintage cues all over it. but at the same time, the overall shape is modern-simultaneously curvaceous and angular. The grille most resembles a '69.- blacked out, egg crate shaped, dual headlamps inset, a slight V to the grille itself. The rear quarters flare out gently over the swollen rear rubber and are graced by a single, slender vertical faux-vent.
The front view is the hot one. The rear has a gigantic bumper that is still huge even with the visual thinning of a black panel between the tail lamps. The four separate tail lamps are more corvette than early camaro, though apparently little rectangular lights surrounded in chrome were considered earlier on. The wheels seem more at home on an escalade than a muscle car, but the rest of it is right on the money. It nods to the past without wallowing in it. It is everything I wish the mustang was, visually, and is not ...
features a multilink front suspension, a fully independant rear, beefy subframe rails that go far back in the floorpan and, possibly for the camaro only, an exhaust that crosses over itself.
after that a GM security guy calls him early in the morning after he couldnt get anyone to confirm it was indeed a camaro. the conversation goes like this:
"good morning this is so and so from GM security. I got a report that you have some GM-owned photos of the 2006 camaro."
he goes
"Aha so it IS the 2006 camaro"
and a long silence followed.
well what do you guys think? if its true looks like we'll be seeing retro. Ive tried to dig up the picture but I guess Im not good at looking.
number77 12-02-2005, 09:19 PM Its either this

or this
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9721/cdnportfolio266265uo.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
that he has. I doubt he has pics of a clay modeled Camaro.
Edit: and wouldn't it be impossible for it to be a 2006?
Zigroid 12-02-2005, 09:30 PM he said it was in GM's typical design studio turntable and had "confidential" on the front of it. both of those pictures dont look much like is explained. by 2006 I believe he meant 2006 concept.
HAZ-Matt 12-02-2005, 09:31 PM If it weren't for the tacked on chrome bar, I would think that first one is more Firebird than Camaro.
number77 12-02-2005, 09:32 PM Well I'm suprised that such a relatively unknown magazine got it.
Rob V 12-03-2005, 12:20 AM http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9721/cdnportfolio266265uo.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
That was already shown to be nothing relating to the Camaro. It was found, a few days after those pictures were released that it was a part of someones personal portfolio of their own designs, to be something like a concept lincoln.

That looks like something that would go on a kids birthday cake...

Hell, thats looks LIKE a kids birthday cake.
turbo96z28 12-03-2005, 09:09 AM i got a question...........if he has a picture of a clay model of the car, how the HECK does he know about the suspension, exhaust, and subframe rails????????????
RussStang 12-03-2005, 01:32 PM Well, if what the magazine author has described is true, I have to say I am quite pleased to here it.

Maybe he's claiming he has a spec sheet too? I don't know if i am buying this... I think they are just trying to report some "big" news and citing a clay model picture because the clay model picture can't deny the claims... He doesn't even need a source in this case, but he has a good story. Maybe not...
RussStang 12-03-2005, 01:39 PM Well, his information does at least coincide with the info will already are aware of from this board. IRS, a strut setup of some kind up front(multilink is a great thing to hear, I hope is true).
The second picture in number77's post is a concept for a Lincoln. The first picture looks like some 4th grader made a Firebird out of clay, and gave it exposed headlights.

Then show us the pictures.

I didn't say those were the pics of the 5th gen. I was saying that if he had pics of a clay car, it might be those, seeing as how i doubt he has pics of the real one.
guionM 12-03-2005, 06:34 PM Sounds pretty real to me.............
Ditto.
Then show us the pictures..
If GM went into a coronary over last year's Z06 pictures (even though it looked like nothing more than a Corvette with a few extra scoops) what do you think is going to happen if anyone post embargoed pictures of an entitrely new "high intrest" car like the Camaro.
May as well tell someone to jump off a bridge. :)
Diognes56 12-03-2005, 06:39 PM Phone call from GM Security?!? This guy is either lying or the pictures were fakes, everybody knows that if he had real pictures of the Camaro black Tahoes would have instantly swarmed the building and  ........................... must not talk about the black Tahoes ;) .

Yep...if his pics were real, GM wouldn't more then call him and ask him if he had "real pics." They'd show up at his office and have his computer search/seized. It is a matter of business secrecy. It could affect the companies value by letting the competition in on secret info for one-in which case the gov. would be all over it. and two, GM would want to know where the pics came from. They wouldn't just call, ask, and let it go.
edit: For the record, Guionm, and z284ever have Camaro pictures. Anyone else want to be added to the list.

Nope. What makes you say that?
30thZ286speed 12-04-2005, 12:41 AM I hope the pics don't get out, I want to wait until Jan. for the real deal.
number77 12-04-2005, 01:39 AM Nope. What makes you say that?
He described it and you said it sounded right.
I really find it hard to believe that anyone has pics of it at this point. One thing is that most people (besides those on this site that pay close attention), real car guys, didn't know about the Camaro coming out till a few weeks ago. We've been privedged enough to be in the know, and are very greatful our friend has been able to drop in time to time.
The thing is that since it was relatively unknown, there probably weren't alot of people snooping around trying to get pics of a car that thought was terminated years ago. This car also seems to be alot more important than the z06 pics, and with that, and various pics escaping GM in the last year, I really doubt a camera has been in the same room with anything related to a Camaro. I mean, heck, within GM, only a few people knew about the plans for this car. That sort of accounts for some high up sources not being in the know.
P.S. Z284EVER, my post was not meant at all to be an insult, things can be read in a differnet tone of voice over the internet. I am just trying to seperate fact from fiction, and fact from haze.

Yep. Personally, if I had the pics, I'd just delete them. If we've waiting this long, why not wait a few more weeks. It'll be an official grand suprise, as opposed to something we saw 6 months ago and we're now bored of it. :)
Diognes56 12-04-2005, 12:00 PM Since the Camaro "died" I had been looking all over the place for spy pics or any glimmer of hope that it would be back. Now that we have been told that a "Camaro-enthusiast oriented concept" will be shown at Detroit I have completely stopped looking for pictures. Sure I see drawings and ideas on various boards just in general, but I have stopped actively seeking them out. Maybe I am sick of all the speculation, maybe it is because NAIAS is so close, but it is definitely NOT because I am any less interested in a new Camaro. I can't wait for January :D .

Welp, guess I was wrong. I really thought GM had a hold on their security, guess not. Most likely these are old pics and the source waited a while to release them.

lol, nice save. perhaps Gm can't afford security?
