98-00 had a differant spec cam than 01-02, but 01-02's had the ls6 intake w/o egr. probably a couple other small things im missing, but thats the popular one.

what kind of "kits" are you talking about? that may help us.

most likely they are interchangable. but things like emissions hookups for headers would be different.

another thing that changed was the size of the injectors, not sure when or how though.

and also some 01/02 were the LS6 block....but everything else is the same...and should not affect what bolts on

An example in SLP has a specific kit of HP to 99 and 2000 but no one to 98? why is that??

oh...stay away from the SLP kits...
they are overpriced for what they claim the yields are (which are exagerated anyway).

tell us what you want...and we'll advise you on what to get

Always check here before paying for mods.. You want to be the best informed modder, not the one that spent the most on worthless mods.

From what I have been reading, the 98 has a different ECM compared to the 99-02.

98 has perimeter bolt valve cover
98-00 has higher lift cam
98 has 28 lb injectors 99-00 26 lb 01-02 have 28 lb (diff part number)
98-00 has separate IAC/MAF connectors
98 has different PCM from all other years
98 has working temp guage
98 has no oil life light (still has oil life monitoring on PCM)
98-00 has low flow yet stainless steel exhaust manifolds
98-00 has EGR
98 has better crafted steering wheel buttons (if you are lucky to have them)
98 has no crash black box

All I can think of at the moment...

Was 99 the only year that the temp gauge was faulty, or were 99-02's all this way? Some of the differences listed above make me feel good about having a 98!:D ...and yes I am lucky enough to have the steering wheel buttons. :)

98 has better crafted steering wheel buttons (if you are lucky to have them) You mean steering wheel controls? I thought steering wheel controls weren't available until '00, on Camaros at least.

Nope, I have a 98 Firebird that has steering wheel controls.

99+ temp guages are setup like a dummy system, its either its red zone overheating or its not. It's not faulty, its intended to be this way, watching my 98 guage makes me cringe at times seeing that thing fluctuate like I have a lower stat. Except mine's stock.
