Hey guys I don’t know much about the LS motors I had a 3.4 v6 so I know a lot about the L34 and the lt1 but im looking at getting a 1999 trans am not the ws6 but it’s a ls1 the dealer is asking $9,500 the cars interior is immaculate except for a very small crack on one of the dash peaces but its not to bad the paint is grate but what im asking about is the motor it has 85,000 and I know it had nitrous in it im not sure how much he was running and how often he used it im going to do an OBD2 scan to get a better idea on how it was driven. Can the LS motor handle pro long abuse I herd a lot about spun bearings. Any recommendations.

wow...i'm out of breath....that was a long first sentance ;)

the scan may not show much, but it can't hurt.

as far as the nitrous...hard to say. really depends on the size of the shot he was using. 75hp eh...not so bad, 150hp....not so good.

i'd also be worried about the rest of the driveline being damaged and worn.

The LS motors are pretty stout, but it is kind of risky buying a car that you know was abused but not to what extent. Although a PCM scan is a good start, it will not give you much info. about the actual mechanical condition of the motor. Personally, if the car was going to be my daily driver and reliability was a big concern, I would walk on it and find something else. There are plenty of LS1 f-bodies in that price range now.

There are better cars out there for you. Walk on this one.

If it had nitrous it was beat on, simple as that. Keep looking for another car. As far as spun bearings I've never heard anything like that about LSx engines.

I'd walk.

if it had nitrous, you will be guessing about the condition of everything in the car(engine, drive train, etc). Not worth the potential headachs. Its like marrying a pretty girl that use to be a prostitute. May look good, and you may really want to, but down the line, you will regret it.

Haha, why do I keep finding nitrous compared to sex on this board? Here's a quote I liked from someone's signature, "Nitrous is like a hot girl with STD's. You know you wanna hit it, but your afraid of the consequences."

If you decide not to walk on this deal, do a compression (or leakdown test) on the car if you talk them into it. That will tell more than scanning the PCM.

If he took EXCEPTIONAL care of the interior of the car and EXCEPTIONAL care of the exterior, then chances are he may have done the same to the drivetrain. He could have driven it sanely and raced a few weekends a month on nitrous, but that's really hit-and-miss speculation.

Good luck.
