why does the search exclude so many terms

I try to do searches alot instead of asking repeat questions and the search is always excluding words in my search. like for example: I need the bearings for the 10 bolt posi differential I just bought. So I search for "differential bearing pn". The search excludes pn? the key item I'm searching for. So I get to browse threw 4 pages, and I hope I see it...

It's a really lame part of all message board search engines I've ever seen that excludes any search term under 3 or 4 characters.

I really wish that would get changed.

Yeah the search is screwy, you can't depend on it much. One thing I hate is when you search for a word that you know damn well is in the thread -but the search will tell you there were no matches. Then after looking back 35 pages on your own, you find the thread, with that word you searched for coming up a half dozen times in it.

Hmm, seems like it excludes words 3 letters or under? Anyway, one thing that usually helps me when searching is to first search thread titles only. I find that doing that typically trims down my results by a very large amount, and also nets me exactly what I want. Searching entire threads usually gets me a bunch of junk I'm not looking for.

For your search do you mean part number for pn? I did a search for that, and came up with this thread that has one post with a bunch of part numbers in it. I didn't look at all of them, but maybe what you're looking for is in there?

Yeah he does... And it's probably a case like mine, where he knows for sure it was posted as pn, but he'll never be able to find it that way anyway.

I used to use the search for looking at threads I had posted on a day or two back.

Lately it's not working for that.....
