blown69nova 11-23-2005, 11:39 PM Any thoughts, good or bad, about these pistons? I have heard nothing but good things about these so far.
They have an off the shelf "power pak" piston/pin/ring package for a 383. The specs are: 4.030, 1.125 ch, -26cc inverted dome and it looks like Jegs sells them for $639.00. A friend of mine use to build 9,000 rpm Honda/Acura road race engines and says the Mahle pistons came out looking nearly new compared to the CP and JE pistons they tried.

Steve,
Just an FYI for ya. Mahle pistons are the pistons that are used in the 03+ Cobra's and are a good forged piston. I run the CP's though and they are awesome...... well they were (broke the car this season ahahaha).
Cheers,
Tim

Are yo talking about the SBC125030I26I ? hope they are good. I just ordered a set for a 383 I'm putting together from Flatlander Racing for $559, - they charge for shipping (no handling charge. Jegs charges handling, but no shipping, but for $80 difference, Flatlander is a way better deal unless you can get Jegs to price match which I didn't try this time. Flatlander's web site ordering is a little goofy, but seems OK otherwise than that, and I also don't know for sure if they had that piston in stock.
blown69nova 11-26-2005, 06:29 PM Yes, that is the part number I was talking about. The only concern I have is that they look to be made out of the same material (4032) as the SRP piston I just destroyed. This is not to say the Mahle's are bad pistons, but are 2618 pistons better?
SStrokerAce 11-26-2005, 07:51 PM The 4032 is not as strong as the 2618 alloy, it doesn't take a beating as well.
Not to say that blower pistons shouldn't be made out of 4032, you just can't beat on them as much.

blown69nova,
I've heard nothing but great things about the CP's from everyone that's run them. I run them and they've been great.
Kevin Blown 95 TA 11-26-2005, 11:21 PM I think they are designed to expand less and so you can run tighter tolerances which might turn out to be better for a street engine and not as important for a race engine. Anyway, I always try to be realistic about how the car is really used 95% of the time and restrain myself at least a little bit. If I was going to try to build a tougher blower engine, I would opt for a slightly shorter rod & a heavier, tougher piston, and then just put up with the slap.
INSANEZ 11-27-2005, 12:48 PM I work at Wiseco Piston in the custom auto division. 2618 is way better than 4032. 4032 is for un blown street apps that you want to get alot of years of use. 2618 is definately for blown and nitrous. At Wiseco we can make anything you want. PM me if you want to get anymore info.
By the way, I can get a better price than the 639.00.
INSANEZ 11-28-2005, 04:10 PM sent price in pm
by the way, Mahle's price for 2618 pistons are over $800.00.
You WILL need 2618 for a blower.
T/A lt1 12-01-2005, 05:17 PM Mahles are nice pistons but they went up in price a bunch since I bought a set last year. You normally get what you pay for so.. Later
