Turbo Exhaust Set-up?leadfoot94 11-19-2005, 09:21 PM What is everyone with a turbo running for an exhaust system? Such as DP size, exhaust pipe size, mufflers, and where it dumps/exits? and how do you like it? 2NastyZ 11-20-2005, 04:47 AM I have not turboed a V8 yet but with my V6 in my GN running low 9's in a 3600# car I used 3.5 DP and exhaust system. I don't remember the name of the muffler but it was also 3.5". It was a brand used by Super Comp class for NHRA. The system turned out just in front of the rear tire. I also had a test pipe in the system (where the cat would bolt in when needed) and the car ran as fast through the muffler as it did taking the exhaust off. Unlike N/A motors, turboed motors don't like back pressure. Good Luck on your system 96speed 11-20-2005, 08:58 AM Unlike N/A motors, turboed motors don't like back pressure. Are you saying NA motors run better with more backpressure? engineermike 11-20-2005, 11:14 AM Are you saying NA motors run better with more backpressure? Goodness, not this argument again. . . Back to the main subject, I have a 3" downpipe that goes about 3' from the turbo to get under the car. From there, it swage's up to 3.5" goes back, over the axle, through a 3.5" Hooker Aerochamber muffler, then a 3.5" tail pipe. leadfoot94 11-21-2005, 12:15 PM I know there must be more set-ups out there... SMOKNZ 11-22-2005, 06:55 PM I run both my 3 inch downpipes into a 4" Mufflex catback system with a spintech muffler and dual 3" outlets. I like the sound, not overly loud. I've run a Borla on my last single setup, and it was real loud (full open). I've also run a 3 inch to a 3.5 to a 4" Muffler dumping before the rear axel with a turndown. That was just rediculously loud, and the state patrol ended up busting me and I had to take it off. All kinds of interior resonance and rattles with that system. engineermike 11-22-2005, 08:10 PM . . .a 4" Mufflex catback system with a spintech muffler . . . You should really consider a different muffler. We removed a 4" spintech from my friends ~500 hp NA 3rd Gen and it went from consistent 117's to consistent 120's in the quarter. SMOKNZ 11-23-2005, 07:28 AM I'll just install a cutout when I go racing. I sure like the new exhaust! NJLT1SS 11-23-2005, 12:39 PM engineermike - You should really consider a different muffler. We removed a 4" spintech from my friends ~500 hp NA 3rd Gen and it went from consistent 117's to consistent 120's in the quarter. What muffler did your friend replace it with? I wish Dynomax made a 4 inch Ultra Flow with similar offsets to the Flomaster I am using on my Mufflex setup. I believe Magnaflow has a muffler with similar dimensions, I might give that a try next year. Nick engineermike 11-23-2005, 01:09 PM [B]What muffler did your friend replace it with? He just removed the 4" Spintech and gained 3 mph. We've seen similar gains by removing a Flowmaster. I wonder why the only maker of 3.5 and 4" exhausts only offers the crappiest 2 mufflers on the market. . . I've always had good luck with Hooker Aerochamber. My old 550 rwhp supercharged combo picked up only 5 rwhp by removing my 3" Aerochamber. With my current turbo, I'm running a 3.5" Mufflex exhaust with a 3.5" Aerochamber. | ||
