Use gasket sealer for head gaskets?

Hey, I've got a 3rd gen, but it's got a 350 out of a '69 or '70 Camaro. The 350 is a cast iron block with cast-iron 2.02 heads. I'm doing head gaskets on it and I was wondering if I need to use gasket sealer or anything. Also, I got FelPro Permatorque head gaskets if that matters...... Also, I asked on the first gen forum, but I just want to check, to torque the heads do I go with a 55, then 60, then 65 toque going in a spiral beginning at the center?

Re: Use gasket sealer for head gaskets?

Thank you. Also, I just got some new Mr. Gasket Ultra seal intake gaskets and it looks like they don't need RTV or anything? Should I put it on anyways or what? If I do, do I RTV it to the heads or the intake? Finally, I've got a SBC, and What should I torque the intake to? It's an edelbrock performer intake on cast iron heads.

-Thanks, Brandon

Re: Use gasket sealer for head gaskets?

First of all I don't use any sealant on head gaskets.

Second of all I didn't use sealant on my intake gaskets only used RTV on the ends (front/back), this is on both my 1st gen sbc and my LT1.

As for tourques go buy yourself a Haynes manual or better yet if you want to get serious go for Helmes (sp?)

Okay thanks. I've got a Haynes manual, but it has the specs for 3rd gens, not a SBC.

Re: Use gasket sealer for head gaskets?

Also, can you use valve cover gaskets more then once? I ahve to start my car and adjust my rockers. I'd prefer not to do the messy way (car running with valve covers off) but is the running it for 15 minutes and then shutting it off and adjusting a good way or is it better to do it the other way? Also, if I do the run for 15 minutes and then adjust them. Will my valve cover gaskets go bad or anything? Aren't you supposed to replace them or something after you take the off? They're cork gaskets.
