i did a search and got nothing on this problem!
this just started yesterday.. whenever i hit a bump in the road, even a minor one, my interior lights flick on for a split second then dim out. so it happens once every 30 seconds or so while driving. this is EXTREMELY irritating when driving at night!
what is going on here??? (BTW punching the dash doesnt do anything)
the car is a 97 SS 6 spd
thanks for any info!!

MY guess is you have a loose connection someplace. Here is a schematic for the interior lights(for a 95) so I don't know if any thing is different from your 97 http://shbox.com/1/interior_lights_1995.jpg(thanks to shoebox).

i didnt specify, only my overhead lights flick on then dim out in 2 seconds, as in rearview mirror lights and the dome light over the rear seats. the guages dont flicker.
but i've checked everything like door switches and removed the headlight switch and everything is fine?? what next?

Check the rear hatch to be sure it's securely closed.

I had the same problem a couple of times and it turned out to be the rear hatch switch. Over time it just wears out. Even if the hatch is complete
ly closed it can still act up.

AHHAHAHAAh, DUHHHH, my hatch was open.
i definatly earned a couple points on the moron meter!
but my hatch is alot harder to close than the one on my old third gen. you really have to slam it, in order for it to stay shut, which reminds me.
a few months ago i decided to do a couple of dounuts in a wet Pizza Hut parking lot to show off in front of some friends, and my hatch opened completly while i was spinning around. friends said it looked pretty funny. :D
thanks for helping me with my retarded problems guys.

You can adjust the latch so you don't have to slam your hatch to close it.

One time I didn't close it at all(I forgot after putting my school crap back there... rofl!) and drove to school and about halfway there after a quick goosing of the throttle it slammed closed and scared the living **** outta me.

Check the rear hatch to be sure it's securely closed.
Hatch wouldn't make the mirror light come on.
It sounds like you have a loose wire somewhere. Pull the door switches and ensure the wires are securely attached.

Did you see what he said? It was the hatch. The lights sure will come on if the hatch isn't closed all the way. Guess how I knew that could happen? Because it happened to my car.
