1LE Front LCAs

I think my stock front LCAs are wearing out at the rear softened bushing. Rather than trying to replace the bushing which I hear can be a real PITA , I figure it is easier to replace the whole LCA. How are these pieces compared to stock as far as ride, steering response etc.?

i didn't think there were control arms on the front??? just the back...do you mean A-arms??

Yes. As far as I am concerned there are upper and lower front control arms and only lower rear control arms . All three are shaped very differently. There is a rumour that the rear LCAs use thicker metal but I think all the real difference is in the bushings .

BTW if you refer to the lower arm as an "A " arm , what do you call the upper arm , a "V" arm ??

Im about to do mine this week and was wondering if I should go 1LE or BMR? LG is just too expensive for me this time... My alignment wasnt holding steady because the bushing are so shot (he'd adjust one side's caster, then the other, and the first side would be different again...). I know there is an upper and lower A-arm in the front, which connects to the bushing or do they both have bushings? I know the 1LE comes with them already, so would I need to replace both upper and lower? Also do they add any extra adjustability, maybe a little more neg. camber?

Thanks in advance!

Kevin , I don't know about 1LE upper arms but the lower arms come with bushings and ball joint installed already. I have the same issue with wear on the stock rear bushing but am concerned that the 1LE stiffer one will cause a lot more ride harshness so wondering about just going stock . Unfortunately changeing bushings can be difficult .

Anyone else have experience with 1 LE front lower control arms compared to stock?

Dave,

There is no difference between 1LE lca's and stock lca's in strength or construction of the arm. It is simply different rubber bushings. In this case stiffer and non-voided.

You are better off buying the bushings separately and have them pressed in. You can use an arbor press or machine shop 20-ton press.

Here are the part numbers:

22156434 rear 1LE bushing, front lower control arm
22145392 front 1LE bushing, front lower control arm

You can buy them from GMPartsdirect or DAL Slabaugh.
It comes out to about $105 US shipped.
