Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
I have nitto drag radials right now but they burn out too fast...
Any recommendations on tires that grip good on a 17x9 rim and still hooks up well...
I have a set of KDW's that will either go on the front or the back depending on if i get a better hooking tire for the rear....
Looking for your suggestions and 60 foot times ...

Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
You might try MT drag radials I've heard they hook great. My friend had the same problem with his nitto's spun them all the way down the track, he was pushing 460 to the ground. If those don't work I see slicks in your future.
Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
Oh Im trying to keep the car completely streetable...The car has a road racing suspension. I should have clarified that I want all around performace tires and tires that will last. None of the drag radials last more than 15k at the most...
I dont know if having a 450hp car with 275/40/17's that are not drag radials will work that well or not.

Can you not get some 17x11 rims's in the same style you've got up front and run a 315 tire. I think the size difference would give you alot more grip.

BFG KD, Kumho MX, GY GSD3. All get good an sticky once warmed. There are also some more competition oriented tires that have a tread wear rating. They're low but unlike DR's at least they have one.
Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
If you have 400hp there are not too many tires to choose from. Maybe F1 supercars or bfg KD's. I understand that you don't want to go with dr's but if you want traction you need to get a sticky tire
Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
I would just get a good set of whatever you like in a 275 40 17 for all around street driving...Then get 2 16x8s and mount some 255 50 R16 M/T Drag Radials for the track...You said that you have a road race suspension, so that confused me a little...Check Tirerack.com and look at reviews and find a tire that suits your needs, then just use the DRs for the track...Check my sig...that 60' was with the 255 M/T DRs and was done consistently...You need more side wall for drag racing and less for road racing...

Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
thanks for the comments.... I dont take it to the track really.. and if i do i want it at street trim so i know what i run on the street.. By road racing suspension I mean it has... Bilstein HD's, 32mm sway bar, 275/40/17 tires, lower control arms, panhard rod, light weight mods dropping 100lbs off the front end....
I picked up some KDW's so i can use them on either the front or the back.. Im Leaning towards some SZ-50's if i can find some.. Ebay has a set with 50-60% tread left... I know those are good tires as well...
I dont like how the Nitto drag radials feel around corners compared to my old Estca's or Bridgestone re730's. Obvisouly the nittos hooked way better but iim trying to find something that maybe hooks almost as good and doesnt compromise the handling.

That one has a stiffer sidewall for roadracing is all.

I've seen Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's hold up admirably on a 450hp SRT-4. Those being narrower than what you have in mind, and your car being right-wheel-drive, I imagine it would be even better.
My next set of tires will be GS-D3's. Looking forward to it! They fared very well in Car & Driver's recent performance tire comparison.

Re: Whos pushing 400+hp on 17x9's.. Which tire to use?
Well the car will have 450-475hp at the fly and about 150lbs lighter than a regular camaro. Im all about handling and love having a car that handles well.. I will not compromise on the handling in the form of MT's or removing a front sway bar or any of that stuff... As long as i can cut a 2.00 60 foot time with my 17x9's, and Bilstein HD's. I might add relocation brackets to improve hook up.... but i'd really like to have a ZR tire that makes the car handle like it should while still hooking up decent and getting a 2.00 flat. My RE730's only mustered a 2.33 when the car had 380hp.. It was ridiculous.
THe nittos can only muster a 2.00. Im hoping theres a street radial out there that extremely close to the nittos dry traction.
