Hmmm interesting. What part did they fail? I will guess too many emissions during a cold start due to excessive time till cat light off.

I have a brand new A4 with the FSI 2.0T and am pretty disappointed in its rough startup.. is that somewhat related to the fact that it's a turbocharged motor or what HAZ-MAT was talking about?

Correct. If you think about it, dealers in both yours and my state buy cars at auctions and take in trades from states all over the country. And yet, if those cars were purchased new in either MA or NY, if its a GM model it would have needed to been ordered with RPO NE1 (Northeast Emissions).

I have to say, this is pretty amusing to me...to think that an Audi TT can't pass our emissions regulations, but a Kia can, is pretty funny. The greenies here in MA would have a field day with this and probably picket the Audi dealers if they actually got ahold of this info, assuming all other Audis must be "dirty" too...

But because they all drive VWs, who knows

Since the turbine reduces the temperature of the exhaust it takes longer to warm up the cat, all other things being equal (although if you give the catalytic converter a little heater than it doesn't matter). That is why I threw out that guess. I have no idea what makes the emission laws stricter in those states, and with that info we could make a more educated guess than mine.

My Corolla (2ZZ-GE, not the 1ZZ) idles very high when i let it sit. If it sits for more than one hour at a time, it needs to be warmed up again. If I don't let it run for more than 3 minutes in the morning it drives rough until it is warm. Kind of a PITA but I bought a remote starter.

So true about our wonderful state. But do you want to give the greenies enough credit to know that VW and Audi are from the same family

Volkswagon can't sell their TDI's there either. They don't pass the emissions laws.

Toyota quality...yeah, that's moving you forward

Pun completely intended. And yeah...G6s seem to start and run just fine, no matter when they were last run. They have this miracle thing called torque, too. Avoid encounters with GTPs

The California emission standards don't give as much flexibility as the federal standards do. According to the phase in schedules I've seen, they should have until 2007 to meet the LEV-II standards. Perhaps it doesn't even meet the LEV-I standard, but I thought that had been mandatory since 2004 (it's what killed off the diesels in Calif and similar states).
